Review Time
I'm saddened to write this as Côte used to be one of my favorite spots. We always gather here for our Christmas catch-up, but this time it was dreadful. Upon arrival, we waited a long time to order drinks, and it felt as though the staff were overwhelmed. All eight of us ordered from the set Christmas menu, but when the starters arrived, three of us received small shrimp instead of the expected king prawns. The waitress dismissed our inquiry. The main course was served cold, resembling a ready meal, with raw carrots and no vegetables, and the potatoes were simply boiled new potatoes, not as advertised. When I asked to see the manager about the discrepancies, she dismissively stated they had run out of what was on the menu. The food was inedible, and two of us sent our meals back. Instead, I requested a cheese plate, which arrived with minuscule cheese portions and only two crackers. The service was poor, and the manager appeared unkempt and unsure of how to handle the situation. I will never return; this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had.
As a regular customer at Côte Bluewater for many years, dining there at least once a week, I am very disappointed with the menu changes. Today, my daughter and I had the minute steak and fries, and it was terrible. When we first began dining there, the menu included wonderful options like cod goujons and poulet grille. Given the many reviews echoing the same sentiment, I urge you to listen to your customers and bring back those beloved dishes. The dedicated staff deserve better than how the restaurant is currently being managed. I’m a very unimpressed diner now looking for alternatives.
We booked Côte in Edinburgh for lunch on November 29th with four friends, looking forward to their usual standards. However, the portion sizes were disappointing. Two members ordered the beef Bourguignon, expecting it to include beef cheek, mushrooms, bacon, carrots, and creamed potatoes, but they received just one piece of beef and little else. The salmon ordered by two others was also very small. The remaining party shared a tiny chicken served with chips, which we had to carve ourselves. The desserts were underwhelming—just a few pieces of cheese and a watery crème brûlée. The total bill was £450. Despite being promised follow-up from the restaurant, no one has reached out regarding my complaint.
Be cautious with the app claiming you earn a 'stamp' for every £20 spent; it should clarify that you only receive one stamp per visit if you spend more than £20. This is very misleading. Additionally, the menu has become disappointing and more expensive, lacking value for money.
What a disaster! One of my favorite dining spots has now become overpriced, especially for drinks. The staff at my local branch are wonderful but seem disheartened by recent changes and complicated marketing strategies. The menu has become limited, and they now add a charity donation to the bill without clear communication. If they don't make swift changes, they may follow the same path as other failing establishments. It's such a shame.
My husband and I visited Côte last Saturday to meet friends for lunch. They had made a reservation, so we were promptly seated at a pleasant spot. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, though service was a bit slow. I ordered the Bourguignon, which was described as beef cheek, mushrooms, bacon, carrots, and creamed potatoes. What I received was a very small, lukewarm, and bland portion. My husband had chicken and chips, which was meant to be shared, but it was a small cooked chicken that we had to carve ourselves, along with a small dish of chips. We decided to order a cheeseboard because we were still hungry, but it consisted of just four thin slices of cheese and four small crackers for £12, plus a tiny cube of quince. The overall experience, including a selection of wines, was lovely with friends, but the poor food and high bill (approximately £450) left a bad impression. I would not recommend this restaurant; the beautiful setting comes at a cost that does not reflect the quality of the meal. We ended up buying a large sandwich at the train station on our way home because we were still hungry.
Abysmalcustomer serviceArrived at17:45 for 18:00 bookingWaiter coundnt speak proper English and misrecorded order three times. First course didnt arrive till 19:00 Served three tables that arrived after us and still couldn't explain where our first course was]Food was excellent but late and no proper apology from Manager - took three attempts till they agreed to withdraw service chargeWe had booke d for Christmas week but will cancel and never eat there againAbysmal
We went for my daughter’s 17th birthday meal. We chose chicken and steak and they were both supposed to come with bottomless chips, so we didn’t mind the small portions of chips between 4 people to start with. We have asked for some extra chips, and there was a massive delay, the second portion arrived after we paid the bill! The staff were trying to do their best, but it wasn’t good enough for the price they charged! Also there was no acknowledgement of my daughter’s birthday at all, even though I put it in the original booking. Overall, it’s an expensive and disappointing experience! Shame, we won’t be going back.
Oh dear what a shame. Cote really has been ruined. It used to be great, but the menu changes and other issues mean the cote experience is now awful. Tons of salt added to the food unnecessarily, rank chips, small portions and very very slow service. We have been to cote in different places many times over the years but we won’t bother again. It’s a waste of (a lot of) money for very basic food.
Lunch today in Cote Salisbury - atmosphere, decor and service were all excellent - but let down by the Tarte Tatin which was very bland and one of the worst I have ever had. The menu seems to have shrunk too. Tjat said a big shout out for our waitress Ana who looked after us superbly.
