Went to Cote in Guildford on 26th November. Really disappointing experience. Always used to see Cote as a reliable experience for food/ service and also good value. Unfortunately none of those apply any longer. Reduced size starters and a cheese soufflé that was clearly reheated; eggy, spongey with a cynical attempt to save it with shop bought cream cheese. Service was perfunctory, not warm or friendly, almost impatient. This has been the final straw after several other underwhelming visits to other locations. Cote, you need to up your game or end up losing all your loyal customers
In Chichester I booked a table for four and notified the restaurant that one of the party is dairy intolerant. This was acknowledged at the door and I was offered the allergen tablet, the staff exchanged glances. The only main option was tuna steak and a curious ‘add toulouse sausage’. As I did not want the tuna, I asked the waiter if I could have the sausage, a couple of side salads and fries. He stood there and said it was not possible as the sausage is added to a dish that has dairy in it. Then when I pointed out I only had one option which I didn’t want he said incredulously you can have steak without the garlic butter. That is surely contradictory. Steak is not listed on the dairy free option. Then he said I could have fish or chicken without the sauces, again none of these were listed on the tablet, but toulouse sausages were, After I was left confused and humiliated I asked if he could check that I could have the chicken and he came back suggesting they could do that with fries and green beans. This was on the fixed price menu but nothing was suggested as a starter or pudding, I do not know what was recorded on the receipt as someone else paid. I received chicken and fries for an extended period of time before the green beans arrived. Please can you explain is all your food now mass produced in a centralised kitchen? When did this change as two and a half years ago Farnham’s cote brasserie’s approach was so much better and filled you with confidence. A manager checked in quietly to see if I was able to make a choice, checked in the kitchen that was possible before the whole table ordered. The food came out with a flag in it stating the allergen before and separate from other food for the table. Yesterday the other members of the party thought the waiter needed more training, so I think he should not have been responsible for my order a competent manager should have liaised with me directly. This situation made me cry and I am still disappointed, it soured our day.
We had an awful experience at Cotes, Bluewater on 21 November 2024 in the evening. It was a quiet evening with minimal people inside. We waited for 10 minutes to be seated at the door and was not greeted, we were stared at by several staff who were standing at the front of the bar talking and we stared back to get attention, however we were ignored. Being heavily pregnant, I could not stand up anymore and had to go inside and select our own seats. When we selected our own seats, we were still not greeted again, but stared at again by the same staff who were having a catch- up at the bar. After 10 minutes, someone came over and told us to move, explained I am not moving as I am now conformable and our previous issues at the door were ignored. They were persistent we moved to a more crowded area with lower seats and not conformable for a pregnant person and we refused. Customers should be able to choose their own seats. They seem more interested in getting us to move than greeting us and taking our order. We finally got to the order stage and the drinks and food arrived quickly. The portion sizes were small and overpriced, but we knew we had to order additional sides. Our bill did not arrive after 20 minutes of waiting for it and again the staff were busy chatting at the bar than to bring it over to us. We had to walk over to the bar and told them to bring it over. We refused to pay the service charge as the service was extremely poor. It seems here, staff having a catch- up and chatting is more important than providing a service at this place. This was meant to be our last time of going out in the evening before the baby arrived. Cotes has ruined this experience. We will never be returning.
For my nieces 22nd birthday we were invited to Cote Worcester for a celebration family meal Saturday 16th November. My family and I (3 of us) arrived a little early only to be told that our other family members were running near an hour late, we checked with the staff if this would be ok and they said it wouldn't be a problem. I rarely right reviews but there were elements of our time at the restaurant that were a bit faulty towers. As we were there so much earlier the first thing we did was ask the staff to open up a tab just for the three of us that we would settle at the end. When the bill came at the end, they had added the Father of the birthday girls meal to our bill and of course therefore we paid for his meal, I was very clear during the request it was just for the three of us, this was far from the biggest issue of the night. We were given water quite quickly at the table but had to ask after being seated for near 20 minutes if we could order drinks. We then ordered food when the Father of the birthday girl arrived and I ordered chicken liver parfait as my main course, the other three people with me ordered steaks. I received french onion soup and when I said that wasn't what I had ordered, the very lovely waitress apologised saying that should have been for a different table and she'd made a mistake, this was rectified reasonably quickly. One of the people attending with me, when they received their steak, could smell a really strong smell of fish and did try not to complain, but the strong smell of fish from the plate or the steak, overwhelmed the meal, so they had to send the steak back. Finally, we were seated near the kitchen door and on at least 3 occasions, glasses and plates were smashed as the staff were walking in and out of the kitchen, which disturbed conversation. The staff were all very pleasant but too many mistakes were made, I am giving this feedback in the hope it can be considered and improved for any future diners
We dined with two friends at Cote,West Bridgford,Nottingham.I had Moules Frites.Towards te bottom of my dish I noticed a mussel with a cracked shell, but I had already eaten most of it by then.I the middle of the night I had violent vomiting on three occasions, and had to spend the whole of the following day in bed.Our friends had come over to stay the weekend, but it was a total washout.I reported this to Cote, who told me they would investigate. They concluded that my illness was not due to their food, but there was absolutely nothing I ate other than the mussels which could explain this episode. Also I was served a cracked mussel, which should always be discarded before cooking.I am deeply unimpressed and will never dine there again.
1 star is an over rating for the customer service both my 15 year old daughter and I receicved from the resturant manager at the Wokingham branch. We decided we wouldn't book a table due to the absolute disgraceful and unprofessional welcome the restaurant manager delivered. She looked at us when enquiring about booking a table like we were something on the bottom of her shoe. I am very resilent and can take on the most rudest of receptions however, this was on another level. My poor 15 year old daughter was so upset by the manner that this manager was starring at her it made her feel so uncomforable. It was rude and absolutely uncalled for. She was on the brink of tears thinking she had done something wrong. I assured her it wasn't her. We didn't book a table. We went to another restaurant and had the best customer experience. However, the misfortunate visit to Cote put a slight dampner on our afternoon. It was an experience I hope my daughter never has to endure again from another person.
Two days ago a friend and I went in the evening to Cote Chiswick, London. We had a very substandard meal. But our main complaint is one we have repeatedly had to make at Cote. Requests for dishes to be brought in a certain order are just completely ignored. On this occasion we asked for a portion of fougasse bread to be brought before the rest of the meal. We wanted to eat it with wine while we were waiting for the meal to arrive. "Can we have the fougasse now, that is immediately?" We asked. "Yes" was the reply. But it did not arrive for a good 10-15 minutes and then it arrived at the same time as out starters one of which included bread. We complained but for some reason this caused the waiter to take away the two portions of chips we had ordered. I really do not know why! The chips were left on a nearby counter for a while then returned to the table. The waiter did consent to reheat them though they were still cold when we've eventually got them. All in all, a badly presented, dried-out "tired" meal which we did not enjoy. The basic problem as regards the impossibility of getting bread while you wait for your meal is that the only a available bread has to be heated up before it is brought to the table and the kitchen insists on doing this at the same time as they heat up the other dishes you have ordered. So no matter what you may say to the waiter everything arrives at the same time!I think standards at the branches of Cote I have been to in the last couple of years have been steadily dropping. Several dishes have been dropped from the menu which is now much reduced. Dishes do not seem to have been prepared to order but are often dried up and cold. I'm not likely to go to a Cote again in a hurry.
This is a continuation to my previous review about Cote Brasserie, after leaving my review regarding my dreadful experience at their Basingstoke site I was, in the reply asked to contact them to discuss the matter further. Guess what, I did, the answer from Cote? Still waiting for it!!!!
My wife and I had food at Cote Restaurant, Dorchester and my wife had a sever violent food poisoning which took her a week to recover followed by a fragile gastrointestinal system for a few weeks. We informed their Head office and after taking 37 days, they failed to take responsibility for having caused such an assault. as if this was not enough, they communication was insulting. We will never put foot in any of their restaurant and recommend everyone else to do the same.
