New company to me! After trying to purchase a short break at a farmhouse near Leeds for a group of friends on Airbnb with no success even after calling and texting I gave up. Googled the farmhouse and found it on Cottages.com. Rang and 10 mins later holiday break booked. Thank you. Brill service.
Re your reply to me , and nice to know you take note. As Hoghton Tower deserves all the bookings it can get. For us descendants , and people who wish to experience a real Castle. I try to visit the home of my ancestors about four to five times a year. But, for me it is a place I can connect with my ancestors. Plus enjoy the north too, as there is so much to see and do. That is why I would like to know which dates are open for visiting .... in between my various visits to the US.
I booked Warre Cottage, Burpham, Arundel, (AH91246) and suggest people avoid it because if the boiler shuts down, you will have to go home as you can't cook or stay warm--and then!-- to add insult to injury, the owner refuses to acknowledge the problem, and Cottages.com are happy to keep your refund money and deposit of £400 for at least 28 days!
Don't book this cottage, because it is very cold and draughty, but, importantly, don't use this company either as they fail to resolve or even want to resolve in a timely manner.
Also, in general, watch out for bogus information on their descriptions - "on-site" parking can mean you have to find on-road parking in very busy areas! As I found with another of their properties. They don't refund you when you find false information either - they force you to transfer your booking. All money is kept in their interest account for five days, so expect them to think YOUR money is theirs. Expect them to take a lackadaisical approach. There is a Facebook page for Warre Cottage - I suggest you read it before you book here!
Warre Cottage says "on-site" parking, but it is a very narrow and angular area off a tiny lane where you can't manoeuvre and at the bottom of a banked garden. Parking in the lane is extremely narrow and upsets the locals! Make sure you put the rubbish out for the owner as it isn't her job! Horrible rain shower that you can't reposition, so ladies, you will get wet hair! Don't expect to use the freezer - it is totally iced up! Heating is not turned on for your arrival, and even when it does work, the house remains cold because there are so many severe draughts!
In my search for our 2026 Summer Holiday I visited many different holiday self catering sites. Having made a shortlist of possible properties that meet our requirements, Holiday Cottages not only met our requirement, but have excelled in location as well as a reasonably acceptable booking Fee process. Once our booking was confirmed, I created an account and disovered a host of useful information relating to our booking. So thank you for your facilities, and we can now plan our return visit after a long time to a much loved resort this Summer. Here's hoping for fine weather to enhance our vacation.
Awful customer service! I booked a holiday through them back in November 2025, i received an email in January 2026 telling me the holiday had been cancelled and no explanation was given. I didn't receice a follow up phone call either... just an email! When i called them it took ages to get through to someone and when i eventually did get to speak to them, the young girl at the end of the phone had no idea what to do or say to handle the situation. I had sent them a complaint back at the beginning of January about it and still over a month later no response. I will not be using this company again!
I take short breaks (3-7 nights) on average 6-7 times a year and have used many agencies in the past. ALL of my short breaks in the last 18 months however have been booked through cottages.com.
The ease of booking, the property details, the locations, and the admin have all been spot on.
As a frequent renter in my experience and opinion, cottages.com cannot be beaten.
I had a confirmed booking cancelled by cottages.com with the explanation: “The reasons behind cancellation of your booking is due to the owners of the property have contacted our services to state the property has been temporarily withdrawn on your dates.”
At the time I originally booked, there were plenty of similar properties available. Now, closer to the travel date, comparable accommodation is around £300 more expensive, leaving me significantly out of pocket if I still want to go ahead with the trip.
The only alternatives suggested to me were caravan parks, which are completely unsuitable compared to the 5-bedroom townhouse I had booked. No meaningful support, price matching, or compensation was offered despite the inconvenience and additional cost caused by this cancellation.
Very disappointing experience and a lack of accountability when things go wrong. I won’t be booking through them again.
I started to complete my booking on line but I had to ring and speak to an advisor to complete my booking. When I asked if I had any outstanding vouchers as I frequently book with cottages.com I was told no but once I booked and paid for my cottage in full, while checking my phone I came across advert offering a £50 discount if you booked a cottage before a certain date. I was disappointed this wasn’t mentioned to me when I was paid for my booking in full.
