Our time at Passport Control on 23/12/2025 at Gate C in Dusseldorf was extremely frustrating. We were herded into a line like animals and had to wait for more than 2 hours. This was specifically for Non-EU citizens, while EU citizens could simply walk through their designated stations. At one point, there were only 2 stations open for Non-EU citizens compared to 5 for EU citizens, and there were no EU citizens in line. If the country does not welcome Non-EU visitors, they should clearly communicate that. This situation was unrelated to new EU regulations or technology. It truly was unacceptable. Avoid this experience!
Where do I even start? Unfortunately, I can't rate this experience zero, so I have to give it one star. We arrived today, December 20th, around 4:30 AM. Despite multiple attempts to check in quickly through automated machines, they were overwhelmed. Waiting for about 1.5 hours just to check in is unacceptable. Following that, we faced another hour of waiting at the gate. We reached gate A33 at 6:51 AM, only to find the shuttle bus still there with passengers onboard, but we were unable to board due to safety procedures. We weren't called over the speaker system, and it was clear we weren't the only ones facing this issue. The flight to Alicante took off at 7:35 AM, but there was no space for my spouse, my mother-in-law, and our three small children. I don't mean to be rude, but the service here is significantly better in other places I've visited than at this airport. Management, please explain why I should even consider flying from here after this experience?

Unclean and disorganized, chaotic. The selection of food is very poor. The restrooms are dirty. The staff is unfriendly. Communication was mostly in languages other than English. Germany's second-largest airport may be the worst in Europe. The highlight of this place was the man behind the bar—funny and friendly.
I went through security checks today (number 2, around 1 PM, with a middle-aged blonde security personnel) and she asked me to stop. She wanted to check my trousers and asked me to lift my legs. I tried, but at almost 60 years old with a bad back, I couldn't manage. She seemed to think I was mocking her and was incredibly rude. I felt humiliated. It's disappointing because such behavior affects the overall experience, despite the professionalism of other staff at the airport. This kind of attitude shouldn't be tolerated; it's discriminatory and bullying. It's no surprise to see many negative reviews regarding this disrespectful security team.
I want to express my strong dissatisfaction with the food options in the secure area, especially around Pier B / Gate B71. As I'm on a connecting flight, I can only access the restaurants and cafés inside the departures area. I found no places where I could order freshly prepared food; everything seemed pre-made, lacking customizable or 'real' food options that cater to basic dietary needs. To make matters worse, I have dietary restrictions and couldn't find a simple, plain hot meal. This is unacceptable for an international airport, especially given my long layover and upcoming flight. The airport should seriously reconsider its food service strategy for Pier B, including introducing made-to-order options and improving signage for existing food establishments. I send this feedback not just out of frustration but because I genuinely care about improving the passenger experience.
