I acknowledge that I'm behind on my tax filings. Back in 2017, I withdrew from my retirement account and paid nearly $100,000 in taxes for the funds I used to purchase a home in the southwest. Unfortunately, things took a turn, and I ended up selling the house at a loss in 2019. The sale price was below my purchase price, and the buyer's inspection revealed termite issues, along with the need for a new roof and the removal and reinstallation of solar panels. This resulted in a loss of about $8,000 from the sale, and I spent another $16,000 on repairs. The tax agency refuses to consider the taxes I paid in 2017 and insists on starting from 2018, claiming the equity from the home sale is capital gains. With accumulating interest and late fees, they now claim I owe $223,000 based on the last letter I received. I attempted to reach out for assistance in 2024 but faced a 90-minute wait time. After waiting, I spoke to someone who said they needed to transfer my call and then disconnected me. It’s astonishing that, despite labor shortages, there are so many new agents being hired, and I question their qualifications.
Had to change my EIN from sole to LLC, they don’t let you do it online. On hold for 2.5 hours and they just hang up! If this is the type of service they provide just let us do it online then and have to deal with this crap. Get it together guys why are we still doing this like 40 years ago??
I called the number on my letter that says "If you have any questions, you can call ***". Waited on hold for one hour and five minutes. The letter states that they included the form I sent them, so to see the changes made, but they forgot to include the form. This should have been a simple call. Instead I receive a person (male, but not a man for sure). He immediately tells me that I called the wrong number or hit the wrong prompt. Cute, but I didn't hit a prompt. I asked a question to the bot, and she sent me to this incompetent line. He only kept talking over me to tell me I should've called the number on the back in the middle, but he NEVER shut up long enough for me to finish telling him that the back of the page is blank! He accused me of talking over him, which I had to do at times, especially to correct the things he was claiming. All I needed was them to send the form, or transfer me to someone, since it had already been an hour 15 since I placed the call. This guy REALLY wanted to be important in this life, but will never get there like he is. What do you expect though dealing with the irs employees, really just flunkees who have no real skills.
To the surprise of no one, the IRS is useless at helping anyone. Their website? Absolutely horrendous. Their customer "service"? Takes forever and is completely useless. I hate the IRS a simple fix that should be able to be done on their website of course won't work and I'm left stressing and trying to contact customer service AGAIN and through chat. Thanks IRS! You are the worst.
What is the point of calling 2 minutes after their office opens, just to be put on hold for 20 minutes, then for them to end the call while you waited on hold for said 20 minutes? So tried calling back only to get "sorry due to the extreme call volume of the topic you are calling about we are unable to handle your call at this time. Please call back again later or the next business day." Even the PSA of Philippines is more efficient than this laugh of an agency here in the US. That is to say nothing about the paperwork they loose or claim to never receive even if you have the USPS tracking number to say otherwise.
I owed back taxes for about $5,500...I made arrangements to pay installments until paid in full. I only owed 1 more payment of $1,146. But then I received a certified letter stating if I didn't pay $1,462 for interest and failure to pay in full charge that they could levy or seize my property...These people are jokes...Always want to pick on the little people...I am so tired of the governement
The IRS should be closed down. They cant answer the phone, And they hang up on individuals like myself, After waiting on hold for 3 hours. The IRS is pathetic, They want me to pay late fees and interest on a First Time HomeBuyers Loan even though I payed it already.But then they sent the money back saying i overpayed. Now they want interest and penalty fees. They are a scam, Thats why they dont answer our phone calls. So they can keep bringing in money they scammed from hard working individuals.
Calling any IRS office is unbelievably depressing!!!! 😡 Be prepared to be left on hold for hours and most likely being hung up on afterwards ! Most Reps are rude, unprofessional and you'll be ill informed most of the time, because they don't know enough about the job they're getting paid to do. They're impatient and don't want to take even seconds to answer questions or allow you to thoroughly explain your tax issue ! But, the IRS is quick to come after people and put liens on their assets, even when they're trying to do the right thing!!! I'm sick of it!!! No wonder Trump has eliminated so many positions!! Nobody wants to do their job, but wants a paycheck!! Fire them all and start over!
This is so sad. The man LITERALLY had an attitude. Placed me on hold without notice. Did NOT answer my question. And shockingly Hung up IN MY FACE, instead of answering a tax qquestion. Insane!Now, I have to call back and be on hold again to get the same question answered. Yikes. What is happening?
