I loved the idea behind Kickstarter. My issue is the amount of phony projects and how there is not backer protection at all. If Kickstarted is going to set rules they should also enforce them.Backed a project that said they were based in SF, CA. They are actually in Romania, which has been listed as un-allowed on Kickstarter. Several people (after almost 3 years) have tried to get them involved and some help/guidance. Kickstarter has done nothing!Unless you are willing to just throw your money away, don't use this site for crowdfunding.
It has become apparent that Kickstarter could care less about the “Backers” that support it. Sooner or later everyone gets bit. Kickstarter allows blatant scams to take place without any real protection for backers. The terms and conditions sound good on paper but offer no real consumer protections. They do not vet campaign “Creators” and are utterly non-existent when it comes to customer complaints and reporting fraudulent campaigns. As long as Kickstarter gets their cut from a successfully funded campaign, they dgaf about the backers and what happens afterwards.
Kickstarter gives 0 security for backers. They allow sellers to take payment and then not fulfill orders for YEARS, way past the time limit for credit card companies to offer help. There is NO reason kickstarter couldn’t either insist sellers refund any project after 1 year of payment if not fulfilled OR put backers money into an escrow account to be refunded if project is not fulfilled.Sellers are walking away with MILLIONS while backers get no help to recover their money. UNACCEPTABLE. Don’t think it won’t happen to you. I don’t know anyone it hasn’t happened to.
Its a platform for fraud. They don't care about their customer base or enforce the rules they set for sponsors and pitchers. Lost money as many many others have. Famous stories of helping homeless turn out to be scams too. Dont support them, they are greedy for your money and care not for accountability.
The concept is a good one, but Kickstarter's implementation is shoddy and careless almost to the point of fraud. As a funding go-between for innovative projects and potential customers, Kickstarter has an obligation to perform some amount of due diligence before accepting a project, and must take some responsibility should that project turn out to be a scam or a fraud. Once Kickstarter has its slice of the funding, it assumes no further responsibility for project validity or customer satisfaction. As funding instruments go, Kickstarter is probably the worst and most corrupt.
Terrible company and absolutely untrustworthy. If you buy something through Kickstarter and the company you are indirectly funding is fraudulent, Kickstarter will leave you high and dry and tell you it is between you and the "creator". Very quick to take your money and pass the buck and even have the nerve to tell you it is a matter of trust as they shirk any responsibility. Avoid like the plague as it is very possible that you won't receive the paid for product or receive any money back.Another victim of the Superscreen scam.
