Terrible platform. Used to be good until companies realized they could exploit Kickstarters "Not our problem mentality" when it comes to handling money over from Backers to Creators. They take their cut of the profits and then entirely back out of anything that comes after. If you're a creator, make a bunch of promises, add some delays, and then never ship your product = best way to get rich quick.
Will not use this place again after bought a game that the maker said was shipped out last year and now my emails just get ignored and Kickstarter refuse to help or release contact details of company. Seems like a scam and they pass the buck for any responsibility.
Crowdfunding is always a risk but Kickstarter are no better than the scam artists operating on their site: No responses, no feedback, nothing. They don't even remove projects that have clearly proven to be scams (months with no update etc.) , meaning unsuspecting users could still throw money away.Simply not worth the risk.
In my opinion, Kickstarter knowingly supports business frauds and collects percentages from people who backed a project and were promised an item that was never delivered. Kickstarter gives a platform for business criminals, collects profits from backers of all startups and at the same time distances itself from any scams. What a lovely way to go... Their terms and conditions: “We don’t oversee projects’ performance, and we don’t mediate disputes between users.”“All content you access through the Services is at your own risk. You’re solely responsible for any resulting damage or loss to any party.”“Responsibility for finishing a project lies entirely with the project creator. Kickstarter doesn’t hold funds on creators’ behalf, cannot guarantee creators’ work, and does not offer refunds.”I strongly believe that Kickstarter should be shut down due to consciously unilaterally supporting potential business frauds and no protection of customers.
Support does not care and leave you hangingI bought a product on Kickstarter website and I tried to message creators in many channels. 3 months later, no answer. When I contact Kickstarter, they basically told me to keep trying. I won't trust again this brand that doesn't care about customer support.
Don't waste your time. If a product is actually successful, you can spend the same money buying the product later without all the product flaws. I've invested four times and here is the outcome. 1. Never got the product and was told after leading me on for 2 years that they were bankrupt. Losing 200 dollars2. Got the product and it worked ok. Saw it on sale at mall a month later for less than I backed. 3. Got the product after a year. Which was later than I could've gotten it online. The product had major flaws and after a couple years of them sending bug updates with no fix, I threw the watch away. $2004. Got the product for the price people pay a few months later, which is the best experience I've had so far.
only want their share of the promoted idea, when it goes bad they run away hiding behind simplistic terms - its was the other guy not me. just as bad, essentially offering a portal for scammers to rob good honest backers. lucky i cant give them zero stars, worthless service when you need them.
This was a very good idea, and I have sponsored many good products. Last year I have experienced three projects that has just run with the money. Kickstarter has grown big, but has forgotten to make sure that there is a minimum of safeguard from these kind of scammers. I would look out for new better platforms that gives a bit more to the pledgers, than KS does. You will get no help when you are scammed, and KS could easily have followed up better before they hand over your money to people that never intended to give you anything in return. Big is not always better - I will say - specially in KS case!
