So sad to say I’ve been disappointed so…

So sad to say I’ve been disappointed so far. I really wanted to love this brand but… it just isn’t great and for the price point it just hasn’t lived up to expectations. Starting with the serum - it’s just really strange. It has the consistency of water but it comes in a pump bottle. When you use it it just sprays everywhere and any that lands on your fingertips just drizzles down your hand and wrist so you can’t actually apply it without wasting most of it. When I tried to use it again this morning (trying to use it so it’s not a complete waste of money) I noticed that it had somehow leaked all over my desk. When it’s applied it has an odd sheen to it, almost like a layer of glitter and when you touch your face your fingers come away with this highlighter effect. I don’t know what else to say it was just strange and it stays sticky on your face. It just doesn’t seem to sink in. The minimalist is nothing extraordinary. It’s sold as a replacement for concealer and foundation for a minimalist look. In my experience it goes on just like any other concealer but it’s also super cakey around the mouth which is something I’ve never experienced from a foundation or a concealer. It also doesn’t cover blemishes but rather coats them and yet you can still see the redness. There isn’t much more to it and the stick is much smaller than expected although maybe my fault for not looking at measurements/volume? The colour was fairly nice, a bit too orangey and I was recommended the lightest shade but I find that’s pretty common with concealers. The highlighter stick and the contour stick are nice and the shades are lovely but there is absolutely no lasting power to these. They sink into your skin and are lost very very quickly. The blush again was very nice with a lovely colour but same issue it just seems to melt into your skin and the colour is lost. I have now tried the mascara and the eyebrow gel and sadly more of the same. The mascara wand is lovely but it does nothing for your eyelashes. It’s not even as if you could say it looks more natural because it’s very obvious you have mascara on. It just doesn’t look like it gives any volume or length. The eyebrow gel literally did nothing. I heavily applied this and other than brushing them, there was no other effect. I then brushed it on my hand and - nothing? Is the tube empty? Has it dried up in transit? I have no idea but I genuinely received a tube of air so this was shocking. I would say for the price point that it is ridiculous but I’ve had £4 eyebrow gels that have worked a million times better and actually contained the product you paid for so this was probably my second biggest disappointment. I have tried the lip oil and whilst this goes on beautifully and looks and feels gorgeous it didn’t last at all. After 20 minutes the oil had disappeared and it had to be reapplied. Oddly, the colour stays and goes very patchy over time so whilst the initial application is fantastic, in my opinion it just isn’t worth it. Overall I have been quite disappointed with the products. They aren’t terrible by any stretch (although the serum is hard pass from me and the eyebrow gel had me completely confused) but they just didn’t have anything special about them and they wear off much quicker than they should. For this price point you will be constantly reapplying your make up and wasting a lot of product so sadly I would not look to repurchase. In terms of delivery this actually came a lot quicker than expected however there was an issue with the delivery company because the invoices supplied by Merit were incorrect which resulted in me having to evidence the value of each individual item in the parcel before they could release it. Obviously this is all based on my own personal experience and I am sure that some people will love these products unfortunately they are not for me. I cannot comment on the customer service element as I haven’t spoken with them. Unfortunately I saw no reason to contact them for being generally disappointed with the quality of their products. Hopefully this review helps others who are on the fence because I truly wish I had read the reviews before purchasing.

I really wanted to love this product

I really wanted to love this product, I bought the cheek balm which can also be used on lips. It’s beautifully package but absolutely useless, five minutes after application it’s gone, sunk in leaving no pigment. It really is a no makeup look.

Apparently bad quality control, the worst customer service and can take payment without your consent

was sent a lipstick with prominent dent but told it's normal for their products and safe to use. the CS never apologised and very defensive. After some exchanges she offered me refund. The next day, I got a notif from my credit card that it has been charged by Merit Beauty for the amount they were supposed to refund me. It did not stop there, when asked. the same CS (again) denied that I was charged and that was impossible. She did not even investigate and just being very dismissive then she forwarded me the same refund details that she sent me previously which proves nothing imo. Now tell me who can explain how my credit card got charged by them? I have confirmed this with the bank before I went to them. I was giving them a chance to explain but all I got was denials after denials. I will report the transaction as Fraud. Hey Merit, do you know taking an unauthorized payment from someone's credit card is a crime? At least take this seriously.

Natural looking makeup

Having worked from home since the pandemic started, I found my routine had degraded from full makeup and styled hair to bare faced and wet hair Zoom calls. I wanted something in between so when I saw an Instagram ad for Merit, I was in. You can email them a photo to get shade recommendations, which I did. I received a response only 9 minutes later (!). I didn’t end up taking the advice because even pro makeup artists always recommend too-pale foundation for me, so I went with what looked right from the arm swatches on the site. I was happy with all the products (there are lots of accurate YouTube reviews so I won’t go into details here) and the shades I chose were bang on. One thing to note - do not order the full bundle at the discounted price, you will over pay. Their set pricing discounts are poorly thought out. Instead, order the smaller sets and then any missing individual items, and you’ll get the same products for less overall.Edit: had an issue today with the foundation stick. Emailed Merit and received a reply within an hour, stating they had shipped replacement. These guys are really putting the effort in!
