Review Time
So pleased I have found this website MYBUILDER. I have used it multiple times for my rental property from odd jobs, electric cert needed, painting and others. It is easy to use. The tradesmen are great and love you can read the reviews.
As a professional tradesman, I find MyBuilder’s lead charging system fundamentally unbalanced. Clients can freely shortlist multiple tradesmen, yet each shortlist triggers a charge — regardless of whether any meaningful engagement or work follows.
I have paid £176 in lead fees without winning a single job. The platform monetises competition rather than successful outcomes, placing all financial risk on tradesmen.
While the terms may be stated in the small print, the practical effect is that tradesmen fund the system with no guarantee of genuine opportunity.
Proceed with caution and monitor your ROI very closely.
This service is incredibly disappointing for tradespeople. You are required to pay between £11 and £60 to be 'shortlisted' for each job, which connects you with the client. However, clients can shortlist up to 10 individuals for each job, and they often do, which means that at least 9 out of those 10 will lose their £60 with nothing to show for it. It's a complete scam that could drive good professionals out of business if it becomes the standard method for securing jobs. It feels like a monopoly on the market, charging for a service that shouldn't even exist. I urge everyone to continue using notice boards, recommending tradespeople to friends, and utilizing social media for connections. £60 represents a significant portion of our daily earnings, even if we manage to land the job, which has only a 10% chance of happening. It's a total rip-off.
I navigated the platform for the first time and found it extremely user-friendly with plenty of options. I made my selections, received responses in under 10 minutes, and finalized everything by 5 PM that same day. I highly recommend it and will definitely use it again in the future. An excellent platform.
I received a response from the service regarding a job I accepted, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. They reviewed the job, provided a quote, and requested a 10% deposit to schedule the work, which took place last November. There was a subsequent issue with the scaffolding permit they needed to resolve. Despite my repeated calls for updates, my inquiries went unanswered. Messages I left were ignored or met with vague promises that someone would return my call. As the new year began, I continued to reach out but grew frustrated and informed them I was disputing the deposit with my bank due to services not rendered. Almost a week later, I received a call claiming they were overwhelmed but could now schedule me. I declined, stating I had hired someone else. They offered various excuses to regain the job but I stood firm in my decision. They pretended to agree to refund my deposit, but I am still waiting for my money, which has been ignored for nearly a week. Please be cautious if asked for a deposit or upfront payment, as it can often lead to issues.
My time on the platform has been brief, yet it quickly became evident that the pricing model for accessing job details is fundamentally flawed and inconsistent. For instance, a kitchen worktop fitting, which should reasonably cost £15 or more, is priced the same as a minor task like repairing a single gate hinge. There seems to be no transparent or logical link between the job's value, scope, or complexity and the fees charged to tradespeople for leads. Moreover, I've come across numerous listings that seem fake, serve as business advertisements, or represent jobs that genuinely don't require any work. After reporting these issues directly to the platform via email, I was still charged for the leads. It was only after I sent a strong complaint that I received a phone call, which felt more like a courtesy than a genuine effort to resolve the matter. The platform certainly needs scrutiny from various angles. Customers are not adequately informed that tradespeople must pay just to express interest in a job, despite claims to the contrary. To confirm this, I signed up and posted a job myself. Additionally, customers are encouraged to share their job with multiple trades through a simple link, without a clear explanation that each response will incur a charge. The model seems primarily designed to maximize revenue from tradespeople, with little concern for fairness or transparency. Costs appear artificially inflated due to arbitrary pricing of job details, pressuring trades to raise their prices. Complaints are managed through a vague email-only system, where issues are neither properly acknowledged nor effectively addressed. As it stands, the platform does not function as a fair or transparent marketplace for tradespeople and necessitates significant structural and ethical reform.
We faced an urgent situation with a joiner abandoning a project two weeks before Christmas. I submitted a request on the platform for a kitchen and bathroom fitter. We received numerous responses from companies, too many to reply to! The reviews from actual customers were very helpful. Trusting a tradesman in your home isn't easy, but reading genuine reviews aids the decision. We hired someone, and he was excellent. We highly recommend the platform and will certainly use it again for future projects. It's far more trustworthy than recommendations from social media, where we found the one who left the job.
The inadequate customer service has resulted in ongoing financial setbacks, primarily due to customers not responding to communications. Delays from the support team and a lack of timely follow-ups from customers have led to ineffective communication overall. This has made revenue collection inconsistent, negatively impacting financial performance. Furthermore, there's no option for direct communication. I received a call from a representative in sales, and after explaining my situation, she abruptly ended the call, which was particularly frustrating!
