My experience was first rate in my first-ever use for Tax Year 2025, and I'll definitely use them again next year! One minor thing cost them one star: I was really hoping that I could upload my ready-made spreadsheet that had all the right information in the right format ready to go, rather than having to manually copy/paste everything into their forms, especially for quite a long FBAR section in my case. I understand why they prefer manual entry, because there are a lot of things that need double-checking (it turns out that characters like comma are not allowed when naming bank sources and addresses in the FBAR section - another minor annoyance). On the bright side, the main info that I've already entered should be re-usable next year, with only the numbers changing, so I'll happily upgrade my rating next year. It generated a wonderful 50-page PDF for my submission - great stuff!
Simplicity and timely response is what matters when we are filing our tax returns as expats. For my situation, MyExpatTaxes delivers in all those points and then some. The web app made me confident to file my taxes early. I did have one question regarding using FEIE, and the MET team switched my return from FTC (foreign tax credit) strategy to FEIE (foreign earned income exclusion) and I was able to quickly get the answers and verify that the MET app had made the correct choice when going with FTC for my case. I'm pretty happy. I like their user interface. It's pretty straightforward if you have filed yourself before as a US resident as is my case. You don't have to be an expert tax filer (I'm not!) to follow MET's app simple instructions, but there is help for each topic and you can also reach MET's support team over email for more complex decisions - that's what I did. It might take a couple days for you to get a reply, but they do get to you eventually, and I think pretty timely if you are working on your tax return early enough. Two business days is pretty good if you're filing in February like I did this year. I confidently recommend MET even for those who are filing as expats for the first time, say, if you used something like H&R Block as a US resident.
