We travel 6/7 times a year with return journeys since 2018 and for the most part I have a good experience. The markdown is generally due to the removal of a rest stop between London and manchester especially when the onboard bathroom is soaked in lord knows what Inc the tissue provided. The Aircon is pretty much never on even if we ask the driver it still doesn't work and when we have complained to national express they just say it shows as working fine their end. Also the markup in refundable tickets is a bit of a joke. I could understand a policy that states refunds only outside of a 14 or even 28 day period on standard tickets but with a nearly £100 difference between restricted and £80 difference on standard. When traveling from Southampton to Rochdale.
We went From Newcastle to Manchester, I bought 6 tickets. The young girl driving was excellent 5 out of 5 & coaches are really comfortable. Would definitely book again. HOWEVER my only problem was no seat numbers on tickets !!! Which wasn’t good as I didn’t know you had to pay extra for this service!! We unfortunately didn’t seat together. It would be so easy for them to issue seat numbers !! WHY should you pay more !!! However I didn’t know you could pay extra not shown when booking it on line
