As a sole trader we are coming to the new tax year & with HMRC now requiring sole traders / self employed & landlords to complete MTD (Making Tax Digital) quarterly returns via a digital software package, it came to the point I needed to opt for a compatible software package, I opted for QuickBooks Sole Trader. Today I had my onboarding session with one of the Customer Success Experts.
I could not have asked more from the expert, she explained everything in detail & left me with full confidence that I will be able to transition easily to MTD & also left me with confidence that I had completed things correctly prior to our onboarding meeting.
I am very satisfied with what I have learnt, been shown & ease of use. I believe that the transition to MTD will be a fairly easy process.

for the last 6 years starting at £25 a month i have used QuickBooks without any issues. Submitting tax returns when it went online nice and easy. Everything went well until the end of January. During the stress of completing and checking data for self-assessment both the apps for shopify and ebay automatically updated. Then issues started.
90% of my transactions come from Ebay and Shopify, so the apps that were provided synced all the transactions, created invoices and fees automatically without regular checks. Leaving me to do business things.
Then the Ebay app displayed random information. It was showing the wrong currency and no importing transactions correctly nor treating them with the right VAT (i ship outside of the UK). Trying to speak to QB was a waste of time, no one knew what the issue was and i was referred to Ebay as this is an Ebay app, not a QB app. Working in IT i know this was incorrect, but thought i would speak to Ebay to, but as i thought, its QB.
So attempting to try myself the problem worsened. Noticing invoices for the UK were not including VAT. That a "Default Customer" had been created. My VAT submission was also due at the end of Jan and yesterday i had to go through £12-15K of transactions that had the VAT incorrectly input so i had to amend all of my Jan invoices so i can submit the VAT, but still i have issues. Now on doing the checks for VAT i have noted there is also a problem with the shopify connector. Duplicate transactions is showing on the connector page and its asking me to check something that i cannot physically check.
In the end i am now paying £45 a month for a software platform that is costing me precious time and money in not reporting VAT correctly due to these two apps Messing up my otherwise perfectly working system. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE IT AND THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT DO NOT KNOW HOW TO ROLL OUT UPDATES TO TOOLS THAT WILL AFFECT YOUR BUSINESS. READ THE REVIEWS FOR THE APPS, I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THIS IS AFFECTING.
Quickbooks has near doubled in price in recent years.
I can't change to a lower plan without losing my data.
I now have busier looking screens to get to the same data.
AI stories to be read beside every transaction with 'I think this might be...'.
This all goes with more buttons to hit when I want to simply match or categorise so I'm using more time and more brain space for what could be an efficient process.
Disappointing that each change or 'update' released seems to be carried out with the 'minimum viable product' approach, leaving customers to carry the burden of time and expense through initial corrections.

I have used it to send a few invoices but they massively increased the price, there is no way to end the subscription thorough the app or web browser, only a phone no, they would not allow me to cancel they passed me around different people each asking me for more and more personal details, to "verify my account" ive had to contact my bank to make sure they cant take any more money off me, never had anything like this happen I wonder what they are doing with the details they have had off me.
Have scheduled two online meetings to discuss setting up a new account for two companies. The first was to be a phone call. No one called. I received a call a couple of weeks later requesting an online meeting and was told the original contact was on leave. Setup a new teams meeting with the new contact. Got a reminder an hour before the meeting. Logged into the teams meeting and the contact never showed up. As this was a sales call, hate to think what the support would have been like. Will now spend time looking for a new solution.
I am beyond frustrated with Intuit QuickBooks UK's pricing strategy. Over the last 12 months, my subscription fee has become a joke.
In January 2025, I was paying £20.76. By mid-year, it jumped to £31.56, then to £39.96. Today, they charged me £51.60. That is a 150% increase in one year! The software hasn't improved twofold, and no new features justify this kind of price gouging. It feels like they are holding my business data hostage while hiking prices as they please. If you value financial predictability for your business, stay away from QuickBooks. I am now looking for alternatives like Xero or Sage.
UPDATE: Support is a total joke - they don't care about customers. I tried to resolve the unfair price hike via their support chat, and it was a disaster. The agent (Kayce) refused to provide any assistance and insisted that I must call their "Retention Team" via phone.
I explicitly stated at least 4 times that I do not have access to a phone and requested to be contacted via email. The agent completely ignored my accessibility needs, claimed they "don't have email support for this," and abruptly ended the chat with a generic "Take care always."
QuickBooks not only hikes your prices by 150% in a year but also builds a wall of "phone-only" support to make it impossible for you to complain or negotiate. They treat loyal customers like cash cows and offer zero accessibility.
Caution: There is no direct phone number available and callbacks are absent. If a payment is missed, you will be EXCLUDED for 15 days. This creates a challenging situation for small businesses or even accounting professionals. The system is quite unfriendly, although the Direct Debit process functions properly if your card information is current.
Terrible support experience It's been over a week since I requested the removal of a plugin that's blocking me from adding another one for card payments. The support team claims they are addressing the issue. I was assured a solution would be provided within 48 hours.

After manually paying through the app store and receiving confirmation of reactivation, it still did not work. I reached out to the support team and spoke with a representative for over an hour, who was unable to identify the issue and promised to escalate it. Despite being told to ask for updates, I received no replies. After 10 days, I called again and discovered that my emails were being pushed down the priority list without my knowledge. I remain unable to invoice or create quotes, resulting in no income, and have had no further contact from the service.

Unable to create or edit invoices or quotes, I contacted the support team and spoke with a representative for over an hour. They couldn't determine the problem and promised to escalate it. I was told to reach out for updates, but received no response. After 10 days, I called again and learned that my emails were being deprioritized without my knowledge. I'm still unable to invoice or create quotes, leading to a lack of income, and I've had no further communication from the service.
