I've been using a NAS since 2020 and it has been incredibly reliable - truly one of my best tech investments. I've been happy to recommend this brand to friends and family over the years.
That has now changed.
The recent restrictions on drive compatibility represent a significant departure from what made this brand appealing initially: dependable, flexible, user-friendly hardware. When my sister recently sought a home NAS recommendation, I found myself unable to suggest this brand with a clear conscience. We're opting for another option instead.
This isn't just about one lost sale - it's about eroding the trust of the community that helped build your reputation through recommendations. The individuals who set up NAS units for their less tech-savvy relatives. Those who used to endorse you without any hesitation.
I sincerely hope leadership reevaluates this course. Until then, my recommendations will go elsewhere.
I've operated a NAS for several years and it has been incredibly reliable—truly one of my best tech investments. I've recommended the service to friends and family for a long time. However, that has changed. The new drive compatibility limitations are a significant departure from what made this service attractive: dependable, adaptable, and user-friendly hardware. When my sister sought a home NAS suggestion, I couldn't in good faith recommend it anymore. We're opting for another option instead. This isn't just about one lost sale; it's about eroding the trust of the passionate community that helped build your reputation through word-of-mouth. Those who set up NAS units for their less tech-savvy relatives and used to recommend you without hesitation. I hope the leadership reconsiders this strategy. Until then, my recommendations will go elsewhere.
I've used these drives for about 20 years and am now on my third NAS, utilizing it for both business and personal use. However, this will soon come to an end due to their unreasonable policy limiting compatibility to only their drives. Frankly, it's hard to overstate the poor judgment of whoever made this decision. People often focus on hiring lower-level staff but neglect to hire top talent, and this one choice has completely tarnished what many, including myself, considered the gold standard in mid-tier external storage. Congratulations, I'm replacing my units, and like many others, I won't return to a service that has shown such little regard for its existing users.
I upgraded to a second unit, but now I can't use any of my drives or SSDs. Moreover, the pricing for their drives is exorbitant—double the cost, and M.2 drives are more than six times the price. I will never choose this service again and advise everyone to steer clear.
The approach of restricting drive usage has cost both my client and me significantly. We have over 35 NAS units in operation, and I can assure you there will be no more purchases. Support is slow to respond, often repeating the same instructions, and when I provide updates, I wait a day for a response, only to start the cycle again. It's time to transition to another service, which has proven to be easier to set up and manage. Goodbye!
I own two NAS units and a router from this service, and I couldn't be happier with their stability and performance. Both NAS units have operated flawlessly for years, and the router offers an excellent user interface that simplifies configuration. Thank you for these great products!
I can understand most IT manuals, but the documentation for this service is perplexing. It seems tailored for experts, filled with jargon and lacking clear guidance. If you’re considering a purchase, budget for professional installation. It seems like a good device based on reviews, but I can't recommend it since it feels like acquiring a house without access to most rooms. Please invest more time and resources into creating user-friendly manuals. My experience has been one of frustration.
This service shows a lack of respect for its customers. The IT and support teams are great, but the leadership is undermining the company with short-sighted decisions. The restriction on using non-branded drives is outrageous: What happens when I need a drive that isn’t available? I risk losing all my data!
