Was riding to Cardiff today and I have never had a such an amazing train journey. The staff were absolutely amazing and the first class seats were really comfortable. The 3 course meal was absolutely divine especially the desert seriously I would pay for it in a restaurant thanks TFW.
It seems that the ticket purchase process hasn’t been tested at all on iPhones. In the first screen, where you select a start and destination station, you have to select a station from a list which is off the bottom of the screen. If you find this, it’s usable, but the “continue” button is found even further off the bottom of the screen after a huge amount of white space. Assuming you get as far as the second screen, you can select how many passengers etc and press the “find tickets” button. This doesn’t work at all on an iPhone. It does work on Safari on a Mac, but only if you spot that the site is trying to open a popup window (why?!) and click on the warning message to enable it.
If you do get as far as buying tickets, you can print them out (I had to do this as I was travelling with children who didn’t have phones), but they’re very tall and thin, so you need one piece of A4 per ticket.
iPhones are now the most popular devices for web browsing, so there’s really no excuse at all for it not working. If TfW were a commercial entity that relied on selling tickets online, they’d have gone out of business.
Easy to book train tickets online, would like the option to have chosen our seats as they were just allocated and we are in a different carriage to our friends. If train is quiet this will be easy to move seats on day but more of a pain if a busy train
I ended up accidentally purchasing two full return tickets because it wasn't clear in the app that they weren't portions of the return. I have emailed to have the unused ticket refunded but not had any response as of a week later.
This experience turned out to be quite good. I often find traveling with a bike stressful, as there's always the concern that it might not be permitted even if you've reserved a spot. While I understand this isn't solely an issue with the service, it's clear that improvements are necessary. Additionally, increasing the number of carriages on certain routes would be beneficial.
I had a train booked for 27th December from a location to another, and initially, there was a delay. Upon reaching a certain stop, we were informed by a new driver that the train would not proceed to our intended destination, forcing us to disembark two stops early. This is unacceptable service.
The trip from Cardiff to Portsmouth takes more than 3.5 hours, and the train feels quite similar to a bus. There are no refreshments available, so it's best to bring your own water and snacks. The service was punctual, but overall, it wasn't a pleasant experience.
I was at the station waiting to travel to Cardiff. The first train was cancelled, and the second was so overcrowded that I couldn't board. The third train was just as bad. I eventually gave up and got a ride to Cardiff by car. The situation was similarly chaotic when trying to return. At the central station, I received conflicting information from three different staff members regarding which platform to use. I ended up on the wrong train that didn’t stop at my intended station. The overcrowding was so severe it felt inhumane. I had to take a taxi back from a nearby town. It's hard to believe this service could be any worse.
The train journey from a coastal town to a city was terrible yesterday, with only two carriages available! We were crammed in like sardines, which is unacceptable considering the fare paid. It was a claustrophobic experience, and it reflects poor planning by the transport service, especially during the busy holiday season. I hope all necessary risk assessments were conducted for the number of passengers on board!
Purchasing tickets was straightforward, but when I encountered a double booking due to an online glitch, requesting a refund became a hassle. The only options available were to contact via email or phone, not through the website. It's been a week without any response, not even an automated confirmation of my request. Disappointing customer service.
