We have just returned from a trip to Egypt with the Travel Department. This was the trip of a lifetime and it didn't disappoint. from the start our guide, Dodi Fathy was marvellous. He is an Egyptologist and was most knowledgeable on this amazing civilisation. In addition we shared the experience with a lovely sociable group of people from the four corners of Ireland. we experienced all the incredible sights and sounds of Egypt in a safe and well-organised fashion. The hotel, the Nile Cruise, the last two days in Hurghada-a beach resort- all went perfectly. It was a well thought-out trip that ticked all our boxes. Well done Travel Department and Dodi!
We traveled to India in mid Feb 26 with Travel Dept. The trip was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed it. If you have not been to India , just go..it's an experience! The Guide Mr. Anurag (" Anu") really made the trip for us. From the minute we arrived to departure he took care of absolutely everything. His knowledge and story telling was just brilliant. We learned so much about the culture and people. If you are going to India with Travel Dept, ask if Anu is your guide, you will thank me!Fiona & Pat
Slovenia in April 2026. Travel dept changed dates in November, giving an option to cancel, which I didn’t want to. Then in January 2026 they then changed destination airport (Venice)to a 2.5 bus trip to/from hotel, and also later flight time meaning arrival to hotel would be well after midnight (making “day 1” of a short break a total right off). I would never have signed up for the revised travel plans that required such a long bus ride and reduced time at destination so I cancelled. They won’t refund me or give a credit note for my €200 deposit. Disappointed in how they handled the matter, using their t&c as a means to get out of refund.Dear TD, I respectfully point out that your reply to me is inaccurate. On 12/11/25 you changed the flight date Dublin to Trieste (but not the destination airport) with a delay of one day, giving travellers the option to cancel and I chose not to as the change of date was acceptable to me. However on 28/1/26 you then changed the outbound Dublin flight from the original destination airport of Trieste to Venice - a much further bus ride from Venice to Slovenia and it was also a later flight time meaning we’d arrive to hotel past midnight and day one would be a write-off and less time in Slovenia. I do feel that three changes by TD which negatively impact a short break was very disappointing.
The guide, Laura was outstanding. One of the best we have come across. She is a huge asset to the company. The hotel is very centrally located in Montecatini, has very helpful staff and the rooms are spotless and comfortable. It exudes old world charm. The tours were very well chosen and most interesting. The optional tour to a vineyard for lunch was well worth taking. The only small negative is the long transfer from Milan/Linate airport. It would seem that Pisa is a better option.
This trip was made great because I met a wonderful group of people. Our guide in Egypt was Dodi, from Cairo, and he made the trip very interesting and very enjoyable. Everything seemed to be so well planned and organised, that I would have no hesitation to book with the Travel Dept again.
