Review Time
I switched from Proton to Tutamail because of cost and after reading reviews that spoke more highly of Tutamail than Proton. I have never regretted the change. Tuta is dependable and secure. My questions with customer support are answered quickly. They recently added a calendar, but I hope they don’t spread themselves too thin offering a multitude of adjunct services. In short, I highly recommend Tutamail for secure communications.
It's not often I write reviews .. but in this case one is warranted. I hadan issue with a password being on an e-mail account .. which did notneed one .. and I had no idea how to resolve the issue. Sent the issue toTutaMail and .. within a couple days .. I had a reply and was able toresolve the matter. In this day-and-age, that type service isn't expectedbut was very much appreciated. Thanks TutaMail .. Great Job !!!
Their email service works well with almost no down times, very secure and private encrypted emails without big brother spying, and the client works reasonably well most of the time.I've dropped 1 star because of the useless spam filter in the desktop client/app which tends to mark emails as spam which are clearly not (for example people I've already emailed or which I specifically told Tuta were not spam) whilst allowing in a lot of emails from junk email servers in china which are obviously spam.I've dropped another star because of the frequent bugs that occur in the desktop client, the constant updates you are forced to do (almost every single week) and the fact that the email search system is very clunky.
I started with the free service, intending to progress. After registering, login in resulted in 'invalid login credentials' and the recovery code (given at registration) was ignored.I waited a day, tried a different registration - this worked but a day later, back came the 'invalid login credentials' death loop.So I'll look elsewhere for a mail & calendar supplier.
Great customer service, very open product development, and public up-to-date roadmap.Tuta has continued to exist for a long time now and has continued to improve their services. I like the design of the app and how their features are relatively easy to use.I do wish Tuta had better email rules to allow sorting into different folders, adding multiple folders, and handling notifications in a more granular way. Tuta can also do with notifications more customizable. Currently it shows all emails you receive as a notification on your phone and cannot configure if any should be less important or not show at all. Clicking on an email notification for an email that was moved to a folder causes the iOS app to open Tuta app and display something like "email moved to a different folder", and show the main inbox instead so you have to find the email manually. On iOS, their apps for Tuta Mail and Tuta Calendar are webview wrappers. No easy way to communicate between the apps and the system itself. Clicking calendar event locations opens in OpenStreetMap website itself too which is not a navigational tool at all. You also get notifications for calendar events within Tuta Mail too, making it feel more like a generic "Tuta" app instead of Mail specific. Tuta Mail calendar tab is just slightly different from the Tuta Calendar app as well which makes it even more confusing with the inconsistencies. However, Tuta overall is a great email provider for me and has proven to be community-friendly as opposed to other services like those starting in P and ending with n.
I've been using Tutamail for free for more than one year, then i decided to subscribe the revolutionary plan. Not because i really needed it (i'm not a pro-user and i use just the 5% of its features...), but just because i felt so comfortable with it that i wanted to thank them for the job. I reccomend Tuta for 3 main reasons (pro-users will have many more): its security level, the high customizability of the address and the perfect spam control: i actually never received any spam since i've been using tutamail, even in the free version. Good job guys!
