New Beginnings

My name is Damian Mc Manus, 45, from Ireland. I've intentionally held back on my review until after the initial 6 month + period was over to give a better overall account. I decided last year to take a huge step at self-improvement and booked a consultation with UK Hair. I had a Zoom meeting with their Consultant, Nigel, and he gave me a brief overview and detailed description of what would happen, what I'd need etc.Since my early thirties I had been steadily losing hair at the front of my head, and eventually had to keep it shaved. I honestly hated being bald, as I always had my hair long-ish, and it did affect my confidence in many ways. Some men don't mind being bald and that's great, but for me I hated it, and with the technology available today I decided to do something about it. Looking back now it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's not only given me a great boost to my appearance, but more importantly, my self esteem and mental well-being. And in today's world that means everything to a person. Anyways Nigel assessed from my uploaded photos of various shots of my head that I'd require around 2100 grafts for the procedure, and that to prevent future hair from falling out I'd need to take Finesteride tablets. I'm taking a half a pill (5mg) 3 times per week, and this is not an issue whatsoever. These work by inhibiting an enzyme in testosterone which blocks the follicles, but it's best to Google it rather than my version. After I went ahead and booked my surgery with UK Hair the next step was to meet Nigel in person in Belfast at their office. This was a quick meeting for him to check if my "donor area" was healthy enough for the surgery. Which was the back and side areas of my head where the surgeons would extract follicles to later be implanted into the affected areas. This was July 2022, and with everything being good to go I left for Manchester on Wednesday 7th September and stayed in Hotel 5 minutes walk from the clinic that UK Hair had kindly provided me for 2 nights stay. My surgery began at 9am the following morning and although I had my head shaved really tight down for it they cut it again before we began. Dr. Tatiana was my surgeon, and she was a very lovely and kind lady, as were her team of 3 assistants on the day. The surgery itself was a painless, and non-fuss experience. First few hours the team went about extracting the 2100+ follicles required from 3 areas of my donor regions. The tool they used was basically a little "punch" that withdrew the follicle intact and they were amassed into little petri dishes to be grafted in later. At about 1 pm we broke for lunch, which the team provided for me. Then the next stage was Dr. Tatiana preparing my surgery area for the grafts. At this stage I was just laying comfortably watching dvd on the telly to keep me entertained. Once the incisions were all completed the team all took shifts at grating the follicles into the tiny cuts. This was the longest part of the surgery, and pretty painstaking for the team, hence them splitting into teams of two. The surgery was completed around 4pm, and I was bandaged up around my donor areas, and given an aftercare pack, with medication such as painkillers, antibiotics and cleansing liquids to be applied. They also provided a handy guide to washing, taking which meds and when. The whole process was extremely straightforward, and easy to manage. I stayed at hotel that 2nd night, following the guide, and getting best sleep I could, using neck pillow provided to ensure the delicate grafts weren't in contact with anything... This is very important. Anyways, back home I had to stay off work 2 weeks after surgery as advised, and by time I returned all the inevitable scabbing had fallen away. The only time I felt doubtful over the experience was when the "shock loss" part began. The transplanted hairs on the newly grafted follicles began to fall out, but this is perfectly normal and just a stage of the process and I just kept my hair shaved until the actual regrowth began. Around Christmas time was when the hairs really began growing and thickening too. This is when I really started seeing the results for themselves, and I was delighted with my progress. To this day I'm keeping a strict regime of helping the regrowth as much as possible by taking Biotin, vitamins, omega 3, and other little helpful additions alongside the required Finesteride. Sorry for length but I wanted to give potential patients full picture. I know people can think they can save money and go to Turkey, Greece etc, but my opinion is that you can't cut corners when it comes to something like this, and as in many aspects in life: you get what you pay for. For me personally it was worth everything and I feel great about myself. A huge thank you to Dr. Tatiana and her amazing team for giving me a new lease of life. ❤️

Not only are you protected by the fact that we are clinically governed but also because we offer a unique treatment guarantee. We are one of the only clinics in the UK that offers and upholds a guarantee on every hair transplant. From the thousands of consultations we have done over the years only 40% of them are suitable for surgery as in our opinion suitable means being able to achieve a great result.

If we deem you are unsuitable for hair transplant, this doesn’t mean there is nothing we can do for you, we have a wide range of non-surgical solutions we can offer. If you are just starting to thin we can offer products to lower the chance of you losing anymore or if you have receded to a Norwood 7 there’s alternative ways to create coverage.
