I would not recommend engaging with Zest Car Rental. When our flight was cancelled, and we arrived at the provider 8 hours later than planned to collect the car, we were asked to pay a GBP695 late fee, told our car had been given away and the best deal would be to pay a higher insurance rate that would allow us to upgrade to a car that they had available (given they had given ours away despite it being pre-paid). The low cost option quickly became extremely high cost.

I rented a vehicle through a service and found it to be a far superior experience compared to booking directly with any rental company. The service provides a phone number with real representatives available to assist with inquiries around the clock. Additionally, their comprehensive insurance package is significantly more affordable than what rental companies typically offer.

Outstanding service! The entire process was fast, beginning with the car collection. It was prepared and waiting for us, and upon returning, someone was there to receive the keys. The vehicle was in pristine condition with half a tank of fuel to get us started. I would certainly utilize this service again.

Mixed feelings about holiday car rentals

We have generally relied on a particular service for our holiday car rentals. Recently, we booked a vehicle to pick up in New Zealand's South Island and return in the North Island. Unfortunately, we were not informed that their insurance wouldn't cover taking the rental across the Cook Strait. When we contacted the dealership, they confirmed we could take the car on the ferry, but the service disputed this, stating their insurance wouldn't cover ferry crossings. To avoid unexpected costs for potential damages, we opted to purchase the dealership's excess insurance upon collecting the vehicle. We are disappointed that the service couldn't clarify this for us, as it would have only taken a few calls or emails!
