Review Time
I left a glowing review at the get go in March of 2023 after meeting with the salesperson for what we thought was going to be a positive experience with this company as per the salesperson we met with and signed on with for the construction of a sunroom off of our walk out basement. He seemed knowledgable, congenial and seemed like he truly believed in what he was selling. We are not new to this process as long time home owners. It is now OCTOBER 24, 2023.We were incorrect at our observation. The first thing the salesperson asked of us after we signed on was to leave great reviews of his sales performance. We did. I have since removed it.A large part of the pre-sale discussion was that we knew we needed to have an underdecking water drainage system installed as the underdeck was going to be the sunrooms ceiling and certainly made this known to salesperson. We needed to hire another company to install that. We asked our salesperson if we should wait to have that put in before or after the sunroom was in place--he said go ahead and have it installed whenever and to call this other guy Mike from Champion to come out and make sure it was OK. So we did. We called this Mike after the underdecking was installed. We never got a response. We called "Mike" again a couple more times--no response. We called salesperson--he said it should be fine. Well it wasn't because when the installation crew came out to put it together they could not due to the reason that the underdecking came too far down and it was was not correct for Champions wall specs. Then we find out that this Mike is no longer with Champion and that is why we did not get reponse from him concerning the underdecking approval. The installation foreman told us that the underdecking should not have been put in place until after the sunroom was up. We hold our salesperson accountable in the fact that he did not follow up with his own people-and because he gave us bad information it's costing us and extra $5000 more than the cost of the sunroom. In addition--insult to injury--Champion has charged us an additional $3000 to "Make a 6 inch revision on the sides of our deck to accept the walls of their sunroom due to the underdecking comes down too far to attach the walls" Not only that-but we will have to pay the underdecking folks ( who are not at fault of course) to add a wrap around adjustment so there is not the 2 inch opening between the deck and the sunroom wall top that was left open by Champion. In addition, the construction has been slow and in fits and starts. It is now October and we are still waiting for the final 3 windows to be put in. The install has been delayed every step of the way and we've waited many weeks for them to complete a 12x14 sunroom that should have been completed much sooner. Now we have found what looks to be a crack in one of the transom windows highest up and they are still not done --we need two more transom windows installed. It will be December if they continue at the current rate of progress.Suffice it to say, We sure made a wrong turn by going with Champion on this project. We are SO very unhappy.UPDATE: It is now November 22nd. The last of three windows is still not in place. We were told it has been a production delay since the end of October--many calls to tell us they are coming and then something always goes wrong and they can't come to do it. Now today we were contacted to tell us that that last window has arrived and ready to put in today. Well, the two guys who came to do it niether had the materials or the tools to to it. (Who comes to do work without the tools they need????) Now it will be yet another delay for the 5th time since mid October getting this VERY LAST piece put in on our Sunroom that has been the hugest nightmare we have ever gone through with any construction, remodel or fix it company we have ever hired. This sad saga continues.... **Update- DEC.1st:Last week they brought out the last two windows to put in at the top transom of one of our walls. They got the first one in and the second one broke while they tried to put it in place. So we are still sitting with an unfinished sunroom.
To start, I want to say everyone I've interacted with from Champion(minus the door installers) have been professional and kind. I called Champion to have storm doors removed. Champion had previously installed a sunroom window and they had done a great job. I met with a Champion rep on August 2nd, 2022. We signed a deal for two more windows in the sunroom and two storm doors. The windows were installed without issue quickly (before end of 2022). Storm doors were not installed until 3/11/2023. During installation the upstairs storm door was installed with a large gap between the door frame and door. The outside handle was installed upside down. The handle was never fixed, but the installers did fix the gap issues.The downstairs side door was installed without major gaps or issues HOWEVER the travel clips to keep the door screen and glass in place were never removed and the pieces to keep the screen or glass in place by itself was never given to us. We contacted Champion for a service call since the door is slamming and unable to close properly. 3/27/2023 - the installer comes out, lets us know about the missing storm door clips for screen and glass. He does not have the part on hand, and put an order in. He also helped get the door balanced as best as he could to reduce door slamming.5/26/2023 - Scheduled date for part install. Appointment is cancelled since they don't have the part. No follow up on when part will be in.7/11/2023 - Still no update or ETA on when the door will be finished, 116 days since install. Not working with Champion again based on their communication and lack of follow through.
