We used Europcar in UK in October 2024, when we returned the car to Manchester airport we were told everything was OK. I'm still waiting for my deposit back. I've sent emails and no one has contacted me back. The Customer service from Europcar is very disappointing. I won't be using this company again.
You are threatening my father with CCJS. This money went out of his account a long time ago. He has tried to contact you and your legal team and never spoken to a person. He has left multiple messages and nobody has contacted him. It's disgusting that you are threatening someone with legal action and that they have had no way to contact you. Someone less capable than my father may just pay you, I'm sure this company does not need to extort people. Please advise how he can speak to a human and get this resolved.
When we picked up the car we said we did not want any extra insurance etc - we did pay for an extra driver. I was asked to sign the form about additional extras, and noticed there was a charge on it of 3 pounds per day - I asked what that was, and was told it was VAT on the extra driver. I foolishly signed - only to see later it was for something I had not requested (emergency travel service - no idea what that is). The staff member had not printed his name on the form (as required) but did sign to say he had explained the extra product to me - he never mentioned it! I contacted Europcar by email the next day (phoning was not getting me anywhere) and informed them of this. They replied saying leave it until you return the car. At the car return they said we cannot help but contact head office again and you will get a refund. In the end they said I had signed and they could not check what was said, so the money was gone - even though I had contacted them the day after to inform them I did not want this (on a 7 day rental).I have the impression Europcar UK staff are encouraged, or at least permitted, to mislead customers and charge extra - and they well get bonuses for this. Not trustworthy at all!Europcar responded by suggesting that I give them "a chance to solve the issue" by contacting their customer service. This is their standard response and sounds good - except I have already exchanged several emails with their customer service dept - they started off offering to help, but in the end said they would not refund the money wrongly charged. I do not expect more correspondence will change that. It was not really a very good service for customers.
Awful serviceEuropcar customer service have a complete inability to sort anything out. They also don’t seem to be too bothered about it. They did not allow me to pick up my car as they said I was blocked on their system. They said I had not submitted the right documents. After I proved I had and they agreed they had received it, they were still unable to provide me with the car. Their excuse was head office was closed over the weekend. I was left stranded at the airport as no other car company had an appropriate car.
If you value your happiness & your sanity and your life. DO NOT BOOK with Europcar. I book 3 times, I got cancellation 3 times. Called this morning to book a van from Swansea branch. Price agreed, payment taken 6 mins later call to say there are no vans available. Unbelievable, why ask what van I want, agree date, pickup time and price when there are no bloody vans!
Won’t be using again. Hired from Manchester airport, had to take bus to get to rental ‘village’ which was a pain. Wish I’d paid for meet and greet as bus took ages to come. No queue at counter and helpful staff, but got stung for ‘premium’ rental location charge after I had returned car which was £40 and hidden in small print. Wasn’t explained openly to me m, suddenly appeared in bank statement- and ridiculous that an off airport location is subject to this. I rent cars regularly around world and this is a new one on me. Just another way to screw money out of you. Not impressed.
We rented a car from Europcar in Belgium after renting in multiple other countries, including the Netherlands just a month before.We used a credit card in my wife’s name on all these other occasions, no issue. Belgium wouldn’t accept it. Fine, it’s the T&C and you want to be strict on it here for some reason. No where else has ever had an issue with it, no where.What is abysmal, is the service received from the 2 people on the desk that day. There was no empathy, no understanding and no desire at all to help. They were rude and dismissive.One even asked for my phone to look at the reservation, there was me thinking of they will try and help. No she wanted it to highlight again how I was in the wrong.The service was shocking, I have never been treated like this before. No desire to help. These people should not be in people facing jobs.we’ll be avoiding any Europcar hires in the future for our trips
Absolutely disgusted with Europcar customer service. We book car hire and I made a mistake in the booking which if they had checked our flight details would have clearly showed the mistake. In the end they rang us and told us we needed to amend the booking quickly or it would be cancelled. We were then told nobody could change anything. Absolutely no help or understanding. Stay well clear!
