I had a problem with Fox Rental when visiting Orlando. The representative Nader, misrepresented the need for the daily service for tolls - $13.99 per day. He stated that if no tolls were used the daily charge would not be in effect unless tolls were used. That was a lie. We easily avoided all toll roads using Waze, but the daily fee was charged anyway. As others have noted, the daily toll fee is a scam that many rental car agencies use. Unfortunately, in this case, Fox lied about it to get us to agree. Bad policy. I would not recommend using Fox Rental.
My reservation was booked through Capital One Travel for the dates of December 25-January 6 with a pick up and drop off in Tukwila, WA. A couple of days before my reservation, I called this location to confirm they would, in fact, be open on Christmas Day since it was a holiday. I was told that yes, it would be open for me to pick up my car. When I landed in Seattle, my young daughter and I took an Uber to the Tukwila location only to find that it was closed. I called the number left on the door for help. No one answered. My 4 year old daugher and I were left in the rain, in a sketchy part of town, with no way to get a rental car because whoever staffed that location decided to take off for the day. I was livid because of the safety issue it became for my daughter and me, and because Fox did not follow through with their word. I then decided to take an Uber back to the airport to figure out a plan B. I have proof of the Uber costs incurred from Fox's negligence that I would like a refund for. Once I got back to the airport, I went to the Fox office and talked with customer service, who agreed that my reservation should be refunded because of Fox's error. I have a form that was filled out confirming the start of a refund, but I haven't seen the points refunded.
Fox was able to rent me a car on site at the airport. I had asked for a minor upgrade at the time and agreed to pay the difference. I was given a Nissan Altima that had an outdated USB port, so, after having transferred all of our luggage, installed the car seat, and my child to the Nissan Altima, I realized I needed a different car with a modern USB port so I could charge my phone and get necessary directions. At this point, I was so frustrated with the whole stressful experience that, with the approval of the Fox rep in the rental car lot, I took a nearby car. I got us all loaded up and ready to go, then realized the car reeked of smoke and was dirty. I didn't have the time to move everything yet again to a different car, so I left. I had a debilitating headache the whole drive north.
I have requested refunds from Fox multiple times now with no response. I will never be renting from Fox car rental and will be warning others not to rent from them either.
AVOID THIS INSURANCE SCAM! I regret not reading reviews before renting from this service. Many previous customers have pointed out how they pressure you into paying for insurance despite having declined it. MAKE SURE TO READ THE TERMS BEFORE RENTING! Initially, my spouse was charged a $500 deposit without any prior notice. Then, they aggressively pushed us to purchase their insurance for $100, even though we had already secured coverage through another platform. The representative at the counter was very persistent, and unfortunately, my spouse didn’t realize we were already covered and ended up paying for it. This unexpected expense significantly affected our trip to attend our son’s graduation from Basic Training. Getting hit with an extra $600 right off the bat made it hard to manage our other costs. I've seen similar complaints from other military families in the reviews. We chose this service thinking it would be more affordable than others, which it initially appeared to be by $100. However, by the end of the process, our total costs exceeded those of more reputable companies where all fees are transparent before booking. While they technically listed everything, their tactics are clearly meant to mislead average customers. So, MAKE SURE TO READ THE TERMS BEFORE RENTING! I will not be using this service again. In summary, be diligent about understanding the terms and know if your existing insurance covers your rental. Don’t let them pressure you into buying additional coverage you don’t need. Also, check with your own car insurance provider, as many policies offer rental coverage during vacations, not just after an accident. Just a heads-up, avoid paying for something you already have or can get for much less than $100 for a three-day rental.
Stay away from this service at all costs. I felt completely cheated at the service counter. I booked a vehicle through a travel platform and paid in full in advance, including all taxes and fees. However, upon arriving at the counter, the agent with a poor attitude informed me that the vehicle I reserved was unavailable, leaving me no choice but to upgrade to a larger vehicle for an additional $25 per day, which I didn't want. Previously, I encountered a similar situation with another rental company, and they provided me with an available car at no extra charge, recognizing it was their responsibility, not the customer's fault. In contrast, this service seemed intent on taking advantage of customers. To make matters worse, I saw another customer behind me receiving the exact vehicle type I had booked, which only confirmed that I was being scammed! Additionally, they insisted on pre-paid fuel, claiming it was cheaper than a full tank, but it turned out to be another scam since I only used half a tank while driving around the city. Another frustrating aspect was that the agent required me to pay $17 per day for mandatory rental liability protection, citing a new state law, even though my personal insurance already covered it. On top of that, I was hit with numerous hidden fees at the counter. Ultimately, I ended up paying over $400 extra for a rental that felt completely fraudulent. I later contacted customer support, which only worsened my frustration. I received dismissive responses and a lack of accountability. The representative even suggested that I was responsible for agreeing to the upgrade, and the manager absurdly asked if I had any proof. I was left baffled, wondering what type of proof they expected. This service has completely taken advantage of customers and shows total irresponsibility.
I clearly and verbally declined all insurance coverage when picking up the vehicle. The rental agent acknowledged this, yet still included the coverage in the contract while rushing me to sign on a small tablet. When you're at the counter and being hurried, you don't realistically have time to read every line on that screen. I've been renting cars for over 35 years and have never encountered an agent adding coverage after I explicitly declined it. To make matters worse, they did not provide me with a full copy of the rental agreement—only a small slip showing the basic rental details, so I couldn't easily see what they had added. Based on this experience, I do not trust this company and will avoid renting from them in the future.
Wow. After the company was sold, I was genuinely excited about the changes. Sadly, everything that improved has now faded away. Where do I even start? Their rates are competitive, but the hassle makes it hard to justify. My first reservation was one of two, because support told me I couldn’t extend the original booking. I needed to fly out two days earlier due to concerns about shutdowns, and instead of adjusting it, I was told to create an entirely new reservation. While I checked availability, I found that if I canceled my existing reservation, I wouldn’t even be able to rebook because cars were already sold out. The only option left was to create a separate two-day reservation and then drive my car an hour back to the airport to drop off one car and pick up another. I asked if that was really the plan, and I was told yes. Then came the pickup. I stood in the marked pickup zone from 12:05 am to 1:15 am waiting for a shuttle that never showed up. After realizing no one was coming, I ended up booking a last-minute car from another company just to leave the airport. But because I still had a prepaid reservation starting Friday, I had to return the last-minute car and then pick up the original one. Check-in was the usual hassle. The man at the counter seemed disinterested. In all my experiences with this company, I’ve only met one person who felt genuinely helpful. Most barely manage to avoid being rude. After getting my paperwork, I went out to pick up my car. One staff member ignored me completely while staring at her phone. Eventually, a polite man came out and got me to my car quickly. Returning the car was smoother, and I barely made the shuttle before it left. Last year, there was one standout employee who was always friendly and helpful. I haven’t seen her this year, and I can only imagine she was too good for this company.
It's only at the check-in counter that you're informed about additional surcharges for late returns. After a long flight, it’s too late to find another rental, so you reluctantly sign. They won’t modify your contract even if you know you will be late. My $200 rental turned into $290 for a return that was just three hours late. This feels like a scam. I recommend going elsewhere.
Avoid this rental service at all costs. I felt cheated at the service counter. I booked a car through a travel platform and paid in full in advance. However, when I arrived at the counter, the agent informed me that the car type I booked wasn’t available, forcing me to upgrade to a larger vehicle for an extra fee that I didn’t need. My previous experiences with other rental companies showed that they would provide another available car at no extra charge, as it was their responsibility. But this company just wanted to take advantage of me. To add insult to injury, the couple behind me received the car type I booked! Additionally, they insisted I pay for pre-paid fuel, claiming it was cheaper, but that turned out to be another scam since I only used half a tank. To make matters worse, the agent charged me for mandatory rental liability protection, citing a new law, even though my own insurance covers this. The hidden fees caught me off guard at the counter. In total, I ended up paying over $400 extra for my rental. When I contacted customer service, I felt even more frustrated. All I received were dismissive answers, and they shifted the blame onto me for agreeing to the upgrade. The manager on the phone even asked if I had any proof of the situation. It was infuriating. This company is irresponsible and has scammed me.
