Our experience with Hertz has been awful. We have received conflicting information at every encounter and additional charges including: 1. Whether or not you are to bring the car back with fuel full or empty; in which we were told unprompted a. at pickup that our best outcome was to bring the car back empty, b. at drop off that it should be full or we would be doubly charged. 2. Whether if we were able to purchase a car before the end of the rental period that we could return the rental car early and receive previous funds back; though we were told upon return that this was not the case. We returned the vehicle 9 days early and provided no refund for returning the car early. 3. We were charged €1,000+ in extra insurance charges after already having paid for full insurance at the pickup desk and customer service refused any refund.
Thank you to Seamus for being an absolute horror to arrive to. Just basically said sorry you booked via Booking.com you are NOT our customer so off you go on the Shuttle Bus. News flash!! Booking.com adverts are populated by Hertz. Not according to Seamus. Some fairy in the sky gives Booking.com the rates and availability of all of Hertz cars. This is simple mid-selling Hertz. I would expect more from a major brand. Seems like Sixt are the only ones left that go will actually give you a car in the terminal when you book it to be collected there. 45 mins later I’m standing on the side of depot with two screaming kids, thanks a million Hertz. A day later - Hertz you cannot simply copy and paste your responses to this problem which your customers are still experiencing weeks after it was first brought to your attention. It can only be assumed that Hertz are falsely advertising in terminal pick up to attract customers to book their cars. Gold club or no gold club, our contracts on booking through third parties are with you.
Booked with Hertz as stated in terminal whereas most at Dublin are at the car rental compound via shuttle bus. Arrived at desk in terminal to be told still have to go to car rental compound. Wait for the bus and then an hour queue at the rental compound. About 1/5 of my time in Dublin spent trying to get the car! Do not use Hertz from Dublin airport.
Irish company using the Hertz brand in IrelandThe car rental business using the Hertz name in Ireland is owned by Ryan Investments. While this company pays Hertz to use its name and reservation system, in my experience that do not follow the same standards at Hertz corporate locations when it comes to products, customer service, add-on charges, among others. They have never honored my Hertz status or global corporate rates for me. They regularly add on charges when you get to Dublin with no obvious notice. I would personally avoid this Ryan company. The also have attempted to remove my negative reviews several times.
A Canadian friend rented a "7 seater" which turned out to be a Dacia Jogger, an extremely small 7 seater with 77,000km on the clock. The clutch went on it in Listowel and they were stranded until Hertz turned up next day at 2pm with a replacement car. He was horrified to get charged E1.200 for the clutch repair, AND E150 for a "call out". Herts are correct when they call clutch failure "gross negligence", it is, but on their part, not their customers. AFETR A WEEK HERTZ REPLIED "SEND AN EMAIL TO...." Great help!
I rented a car at Kerry Airport for the period from August 22nd, 2024, to August 26th, 2024. The booking was made via Booking.com, and the total amount was €131.41. The vehicle displayed during the booking was a VW Polo.Upon arrival, we were given a Ford Focus. On the receipt, this was labeled as a car upgrade with an additional charge of €300. I did not request a better car!The station manager, Mr. Derek, informed me that this car upgrade (Car/Vehicle Upgrade) would not be charged. He mentioned that the charge on the receipt was a system error and assured us not to worry and to enjoy our trip. He also said that he had already contacted the branch manager, Mr. Ryan, via email regarding this matter. Now, I see on my AMEX statement that this car upgrade has been charged.I was at the location with a friend who also rented a vehicle. He received a Peugeot 5008, although he had also booked a VW Polo. We both made our bookings in advance through Booking.com. He was also charged an upgrade fee of €181.60, despite Mr. Derek explicitly telling us that it would not be charged and that it was a system error!Furthermore, I find it incomprehensible why €300 is being charged for a compact car, while €181 is being charged for a mid-size car. This was our first visit to Ireland, and we wanted to remember it positively! We were in a foreign country with family and child. Our accommodation was in Caherciveen, about 1 hour from Kerry Airport. We were dependent on the rental vehicle and had to trust Mr. Derek, and this is what happened! The most outrageous part is that when we returned the vehicle, we mentioned it again, and Mr. Derek once more reassured us not to worry. To ensure we could fly back without concern, he gave us the business card of the branch manager, Mr. Paul Ryan. However, the email address provided does not exist. This is absolutely unacceptable!Relevant parties such as AMEX, Booking.com, and Hertz Ireland have already been contacted!
Review for Herz Ireland (Dollar)I recently visited Herz Ireland (Dollar) with a colleague, and the experience was extremely disappointing. Despite having a confirmed booking, they attempted to push unnecessary upgrades on us without any clear communication. My colleague ended up being charged an additional €300 for absolutely nothing, and I was forced to pay an extra €180 simply because they gave me an automatic car, which I hadn't requested. The lack of communication was appalling, and there was no clear way to address our concerns. The staff were visibly irritated and came across as scammers. We will be pursuing legal action due to this unacceptable treatment. I strongly advise against using their services.
