DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT CREATE AN. ACCOUNT WITH KDP. USE A DIFFERENT PROVIDER FROM THE START.
I am so disappointed with Amazon KDP. I used to love Amazon products, I have all of their reading related subscriptions, but their lack of concern for writers, and horribly ineffective platform, has made me see them in a whole new light.
I've been working months to get my first book ready to publish. Once I got to the phase in my timeline to setup my KDP account, everything went off without a hitch and I received confirmation almost immediately that my account had been verified. I didn't do anything on the platform, and not even 24 hours later, I received a notification that my account had been terminated due to inconsistent or incorrect information, and I have no recourse. I'm not allowed to open another account, or publish on their platform, and no further explanation was offered.
Everything I provided was correct, I even went as far as to send supporting documents for all of my information, but they just ignore you.
I have sent countless emails over the past. 2 months, both through the provided email address and the online contact form, and I have not received a single response after the day of termination.
They have no care that their platform, lack of customer service and lack of due diligence ruins people's dreams and all the work they put in.
They know they're the biggest provider, and can do whatever they want, regardless of how it affects their loyal consumers, and writers, so why even try.
Extremely disappointed in KDP, if you are considering using their platform, don't. Go with an alternative from the start, that way you can atleast still publish on their platform without dealing with this. Unfortunately, I didn't go this route, so I don't have that same opportunity.

It seems many independent authors face similar issues, where anything from a bot accessing your book to someone attempting to claim copyright over a common word in your title can trigger this problem.

I have dedicated 8 years to writing a couple of books with professionalism. I wanted to publish them through a platform, so I created an account, submitted my details, uploaded identification, linked my bank account, and updated my tax profile. Then, just two days later, they deleted my account without any explanation. I reached out for clarification, but they simply reiterated their decision to terminate my account without providing a reason. It seems the entire company is being run by unprofessional staff or automated systems. I came to leave a review here and noticed the platform has a low customer satisfaction rating. I’m thankful they spared me from wasting resources and time on publishing my book through them.
This service is a joke. They take your money and then treat you poorly. My book is a Christmas title, and even after the holiday rush, it's not listed under the 'Christmas Book' category. It was supposed to be optimized but isn't even available for sale in that section. The representative I worked with shifted the blame to the marketing team, who are even less helpful. My book has been available since late October, yet there's been no press release. I shared my concerns with the representative, but he showed no interest. They connect you with untrustworthy individuals who fail to fulfill their contractual obligations, and the service doesn't seem to care.
I ordered professionally printed children’s books and received the wrong size, inconsistent colors, random blank pages, and even the printer's branding in my book without consent. No two copies look alike, the colors vary, the layout is incorrect, and the entire batch is unsellable. This has caused financial loss and reflects a shocking lack of quality control. A professional printing service should never deliver work in this state. I am extremely disappointed and cannot recommend them.
If I could give a negative star rating, I would. A minor mistake can lead to account termination without any chance for appeal, no matter how apologetic you are. It won't be long before this service is begging authors to publish again due to their harsh policies and sudden account terminations.
I published two ebooks—one in English and another in French—without issue on a platform. However, after making minor changes to the description (not the manuscript), they blocked my titles, stating via email that they would not publish my books. Could this just be an automated response? This is very disappointing, and I may need to seek other publishing options.
After a promising start with my novel, I was informed I had sold several hundred copies, yet I have not received any royalty payments. I've called numerous times and sent multiple emails. I dealt with a representative who has since left the company and more recently with another individual. I'm unsure how many books have actually sold, as no one will provide that information, and no payments are forthcoming. They ignore my emails, have misled me about sales, and do not treat me professionally or honestly. Their handling of my situation has been appalling—quick to take my money but unresponsive afterward.
