Review Time
The platform is good and on boarding is fairly seamless. Training is basic and could be improved. Tasks are not always clearly defined and the AI used for checking is frustrating. Pay is less than expected of what I would earn from my profession.
I joined this platform intending to contribute fairly and followed the stated guidelines carefully. Despite this, I was removed based on an allegation that was not supported by any clear evidence, and my appeal was rejected without transparency. I reviewed the policies again, ensured full compliance, and attempted to continue in good faith, yet the account was removed again under vague reasoning. I made every effort to respect the rules and participate honestly, but the process I experienced was inconsistent and unfair. When decisions directly impact someone’s ability to work, they should be evidence based and transparent. Prospective users should be aware of how rigid and unaccountable this system can be.
Very disappointing experience. I completed 18.4 hours of work for Outlier and tracked all time in Hubstaff as required. I provided screenshots proving my hours were logged, yet payment was denied because the screenshot of the project appeared as lowercase “multimango” instead of capitalized “Multimango.”
In other words, the work was done and documented, but payment was refused over an internal labeling technicality. After 11 emails, support closed the ticket with no resolution. Contractors should keep independent records; even properly tracked hours may be disputed or denied.
I will be filing a wage complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney General and pursuing recovery through appropriate channels.
I appreciate the tasks available on the platform, and the compensation is fair. However, the assessment system requires some enhancements. Overall, the service is fantastic. If it weren't for the confusion surrounding the task evaluations, I would have rated it 5 stars.
A concerning and frustrating experience. They rapidly hired a large number of individuals in November, but by December 30th, they were all let go. This raises questions about their true intentions. The process required recording a video of yourself and submitting a copy of your legal identification. The service is associated with a company that has a questionable reputation. The software was unreliable and difficult to use. Communication was nonexistent. There were dubious lotteries and numerous bots, resulting in a chaotic situation. I would not recommend trusting this service.
Initially, it seemed like a decent side gig to earn some extra cash. However, the lengthy wait for a quality review was frustrating, and then my account was deactivated because it appeared I was referencing something during the screenings (I was simply re-reading the question and my coded answers). The support team denied my appeal, stating their decision was final. I honestly found this to be quite unfair!
My experience as a contributor has been very positive. Payments are consistently prompt, and the support network is robust. The daily webinars for ongoing projects are incredibly helpful, allowing for real-time issue resolution. There's also a friendly community platform where contributors can engage, share insights, and offer support to each other. I enjoyed the enjoyable activities and incentives within projects, which foster a sense of community even while working remotely from various locations. One downside is that projects aren't always available, but timely updates are provided when new opportunities arise. I'm eager to take on more projects.
If you're looking for income and job security, steer clear of this company. The organization grapples with issues of conflict of interest and lacks effective communication and support for its employees. Conflict of interest: The company claims to be a North American platform, yet it's evident that many users are accessing it through VPNs, as shown by the names of contest winners each week. Why is this concerning? Because they started limiting the hours workers could earn collectively, often resulting in no available work by the morning. Communication: When you're removed from the platform (and this is a common occurrence, with over twenty thousand removals in the past month), they won’t inform you of the reasons. Many who were removed had positive reviews of their work quality yet still faced removal.
I appreciate the chance to work from home on engaging projects. However, it's quite frustrating to be abruptly removed from assignments without any explanation. In one instance, I sought feedback multiple times to ensure I was on the right track, but I received none. After starting a new project and completing just one task, I was dropped for 'quality reasons.' A similar situation occurred on a different project. I was following the instructions, so what went wrong? What about the chance to learn and grow? If AI can improve with experience, why can't we? Be aware that you might invest hours understanding the systems only to be left without options. Still, if you find a project you enjoy and manage to stay on board, it can be a rewarding experience!
Extremely disappointing experience. I had been working with them for some time, and while the tasks were simple and tedious, it helped me stay afloat. Suddenly, I and many others received emails informing us of our removal from the program without explanation. The initial message claimed that quality standards were not met. I replied, arguing that my quality score had consistently been between 1.9 and 2, while they stated anything below 1.0 could result in removal. Their response was simply, "Sorry, the company isn't hiring any new annotators." I expressed my confusion, having been with them for a while. Eventually, I received another email stating that many individuals were removed and that the decision was final with no possibility for appeal. If you check their online forum, you'll see the struggles many have faced. I strongly advise avoiding this service.
