Appalling workmanship and service! We had our sofa recovered by Plumbs for a second time in 2025 as they undertook a great job some 9 years prior. However this time its been shoddily covered, material tensions not put in so the seats are all baggy and the foam filling is completely inadequate. Raised in mid October 2025 and I am STILL in February 2026 chasing to get this resolved following their third party inspection.
We hired plumbs to reupholster of Chesterfield type sofa, that had sustained significant cat damage. I was a bit unsure of using a large firm rather than a local specialist, but they were competitive on price, offered home service to choose fabrics, with no pressure selling. They were excellent keeping me informed of progress, delivery and pickup were seamless. But the main thing, they did a great job, the sofa looks superb - better than new; a great job with excellent pattern matching. Highly recommended.
I am thrilled with my new sofa and pouffe covers, they make my furniture look brand new. All the staff I had dealings with were lovely, and although I did need one pet throw replacing as it was too small it came really quickly and does the job really well.The fabric is of really good quality and after being fitted by a visiting specialist my sofa looks crisp and new.Love the contrast piping too.
Found the whole process from booking the first appointment and choosing the fabric awkward - it took ages and there were lots of miscommunications and lost details. Fabulous upholsterer and the finished item is lovely. If sales and admin could catch up with the upholsterer the overall service would be great.
Warm, friendly and trustworthy staff. Good quality materials-I love how our sofa looks and feels now, where beforehand I was slightly embarrassed, because the covers were worn and faded. We didn't have to wait too long for our fabrics either. We plan to use plumbs again in the future.
Back in November when Susan came to sell us the idea of tailored covers - we were thinking of cheaper stretch things - she did a great job in selling us tailored covers !A few weeks later your tailor arrived and spent the morning measuring and and making patterns. A few weeks later your fitter arrived and within an hour had the new covers on fixed and ironed. Our conservatory suite now looks and feels like it's brand new.
Horrendous Experience with Plumbs this time! Have been pushed around and I feel cornered into submission like a scolded dog.Paid a deposit for an armchair cover £180 plus! The rep came out in the dark with his sample book and did not leave me with a sample but left instead with a signed contract to complete an armchair cover.I showed Terry Haynes The other chair and style that We had upholstered by Plumbs a couple of years back.I asked for the same with piping and detail.The wait took approximately 3/4 weeks a timely awaited birthday gift to myself.Terry arrived and started putting covers on struggling to line up all of the piping so that it sat neatly in line on the chair.It was baggy and had so much excess material the sides were hanging straight instead of moulding to the chair more.As soon as I pinched it in a couple of inches it went into place.Terry tried to say in one breath oh!! It looks fine!!!!Dismissing any error and changing the subject ..pointing out that the colour was fabulous and changes in the light.On this note he packed up his bag put the cover back in his box and left with a promise to try and rectify.He left the arm caps and base cushion over with us.The cushion base cover is so tight that the piping on the edges are crooked and fabric puckers and wrinkles along the front and it moves awkwardly each time you sit on it .The arm caps do not have enough material to tuck into the base ( cost cutbacks…?) so they waver and slip around.The colour in daylight looks green not petrol blue ( as in the name petrol blues)Verdict…make sure that you always state exactly what you want and have it in writing otherwise you won’t be happy.Don’t sign anything unless the rep leaves a sample of the fabric for you to see in natural daylight .I have been complaining and ringing customer services for x5 days now! and have been refused by a senior manager Stephen Raynor-WatsonSenior Customer Services Advisorfor a refund of my deposit of £180 and refused categorically any refunds or putting the colour,style and sizes right! And beginning with another rep who could come out with fresh eyes..to cast a new view on it.I even offered to pay for half of the fabric cost!He argued with my poor husband who is in his late 70’s and argued over me not even allowing me to speak about it sticking to the contract theory and company costs!! And suggesting that I get in touch with the furniture ombudsman.Then he finally put the phone down on me. It’s really unbelievable..No call back has ever been attempted from The rep Terry Haynes the local consultant either!! If you are reading the response from Plumbs to this review then don’t believe it! We have not ever been contacted by the consultant to this day!!
