If you ring this service and the man is…

If you ring this service and the man is called Matt… hang up immediately. All he does is scoff food and tell you you’re in control of your own actions. Matt so are you so leave this service and stop telling mentally ill people they can control things. Absolute disgrace he’s still allowed to volunteer there.

Very bad service they should not be…

Very bad service they should not be allowed to speak to people with issues...... a person called Linda in samaritans after telling her I felt suicidal told me to go kill myself and that's it's my prerogative...... why do places like this exist... you can see the whole review about them.... the Gov need to look into this..... you cannot continue existing, if you are making people feel worse.

Before calling Peterborough Samaritans be aware

Peterborough Samaritans is a very well-funded independent charity which uses Samaritans branding and IT systems. At time of publishing the branch had sufficient funds for over 5 years work without the need for any further fundraising, provided they stick to their core business.Samaritans causes dependency.A caller to Samaritans will typically call over 25 times. Each time they call they must restart the conversation about why they are calling. Effectively reliving the trauma that caused them to call. Samaritans use no tools or techniques to help you move forward. They will not help you move on. Instead, they’ll ask intrusive questions about your trauma and excuse themselves with “and how does that make you feel”. Lack of training. After about 12 hours initial training volunteers are put on the phones. After a volunteer is considered trained there is virtually no refresher training or mentoring for years. Bad habits creep in and there is very little in the way of checks to ensure the volunteers are appropriate and consistent.Inappropriate behaviour. Peterborough Samaritans have two people in a room on the phones. So, they have little time to overhear what the other is doing. Volunteers usually do shifts with their friends who may share the same bad habits and are unlikely to ever call out their friend. Occasionally, and I mean very occasionally, a volunteer from another branch will listen in for a few minutes without you or the volunteer you’re talking to knowing. This mysterious eavesdropper takes notes. Despite this woeful lack of oversight Samaritans dismiss about one volunteer a month for inappropriate behaviour. Which could include a volunteer arranging to meet a vulnerable caller in person. Though not always for sex. Or, it could be a volunteer acting in a way that is deemed to encourage suicide. Not necessarily confidential. They have been known to share identifying details about callers with people outside of the branch for reasons that have nothing to do with your welfare. In circumstances where the caller has done nothing wrong and certainly has not been asked to give consent. What you say doesn’t always stay with the SamaritanYour telephone number, name, sometimes location, and details of why you call can be made available to all 200 branches and their head office. Peterborough Samaritans is very active in providing support in prisons including, at the time of writing, a prison for sex offenders. However the Peterborough branch has never reached out to victim support groups, rape crisis or any other charity or organisation that supports the victims of sex crimes, or indeed any victim of crime. The policies for treating child callers is a particular concern. Guidance is confusing and floundering volunteers can suggest the child tells somebody else, a teacher, a parent.24/7 is their USP, claiming they are there when all others are closed. Something they make a great deal of when fundraising. This branch however struggles to be there even 9-5. The branch is closed most nights and is closed nearly 50% of the time. When they are open there are only 2 volunteers available.I am an ex-volunteer of over 10yrs.

OMG!

OMG! I don't even know what to say. I was very upset as I had no one to talk to and going through a difficult time. The lady on the call was polite and pleasant but not helpful and I did not feel much better. This was my second and last ever call to them. She did not let me finish, she just stopped me and ended the conversation suddenly. I was talking very nicely and calmly about my problems, tearful a bit as well. She said we had been on the call for some time and we should take a break to reflect. I had not been that long, less then 45 minute. I felt so embarrased, the way she made me feel was awful. She could have done it differently. I will never call them again!

My experiences

Tried it once, it listened and said normal things/ no actual help. Next time I emailed but my emotions overwhelmed me right away and I had to call. They hung up twice. Useless and neglectful.

Useless

It s Barry’s wife leaving this review. Barry has been very ill last few days and as I am his carer it is down to me to look after him. Anyway I feel really low and at the point I would just like to lie down and not get up again. I phoned Samaritan s twice this morning and got no reply to either call. In the past have sent e maiks but it takes ages to get a reply. If you cannot be there for people going through rough times DO NOT ADVERTISE YOUR CHARITY AND INFORM THE PRESSYOU CANNOT COPE.

Will only stick it further

I had real problems and still do. A couple of phone calls into the negative layer of the psychopathic Samaritans. Compounded my feelings of alienation and desperation even further. The first misplaced psycho I talked to was some factious knuckle dragged in North London . I conveyed to this type , my real and omnipresent concern about ending up in temp accommodation. Due to my greedy pos landlord wanting to sell my flat where I’d been for years . I told it about the real struggle I’d found about finding alternative accommodation within the short space of time that had been allotted to me and other troubles . Rather then offer empathy or talk like a engaged human , the responder reacted like a data collection bot . I could hear intermittent interference on the line throughout. As if another more senior professional psycho was listening in . When I told the parasitic responder that I was concerned about going into , temp accommodation which normally house people with substance dependence issues . The PR shoot back with - “ Has that been a problem for you is that something you’ve depended on in the past “???? Hello!!!!!!!!!!! I’m a ultra social conservative who’s never done drugs. In addition what I’d said thus far in that call at no point implied that I was an ex junkie. So right there the Scam Marathon was judgemental and not really engaged in the present or the experience of the caller. This robotic entity kept repeating the same ascertions for minutes on end till I took it to task . At which point the robotic facade disappeared completely and it was narcissistic ghetto Momma time . An emotionless entity became in raged for its own questioned position. I terminated the call while the RP was mid rant . Afterwards I tried one last time I got through to some other bot oriented entity in the Home Counties. When I tried again , I got on to saying I could be on the streets soon her response was not one of compassion , concern or empathy it was one worthy of an imbecile. “ How does that make you feel “? When I challenged such a response with sarcasm, the middle class robotics soon ended and like her fellow bot she found emotions and anger for daring to be challenged by a pleb. As a caller who was given a year plus ban for challenging RP’s in the past , I can only conclude from these two recent experiences that the service has gone from terrible to diabolical over the last two years. There appears to be some new training model at play .When I reached out to service in the early 200s you could eventually expect to through to someone with their own personality and who was fully engaged in the moments of the call, as it unfolded . Apparently that is no longer the dynamic. Like a lot of other fake support services this one corralates it’s own data and stats . To make the service seem like it’s helping the majority . Not the minority of highly paid managers and the RP’s there in the main for their own career enhancements and that of course is often motivated by financial gain. The service serves them and their selfish interests above and beyond the common caller. Calls are listened into but like most big deluded monopolies the service or lack of it is never at fault and what ever these lying psychopaths have asserted or noted is always gospel. Horrid times we are battling through those of us from the working class demographic regardless of our origins . Should be renamed. Drain Marathons. From now on.
