No safe place

Im astounded that their systems are allowed to override. , the caller ID settings on a persons phone. For no valid reason or onus on them to explain the decision. Possibly because it’s determined by a Bot . So you see they don’t care about individuals and their personal experiences . I did not use any swear words or abuse anyone. However that doesn’t matter to this unethical non service run by over paid managers. A vast sum of donations going on paid jobsworths and offensive software . Remember that if they ask you to run a mile for them. As they will never tell you or approximately convey as to where the donation went . As I know as I once raised money for them on a marathon. Though in hindsight I should have had a snickers over the reviews on here first. When I think back to my last calls I did not find them helpful . One of the volunteers was condemning and condescending I eventually asked her if she was a Tory As she had asked me to open up. But when I told her about how the cost of living crisis was effecting me and my family. She started aggressively gas lighting over everything thing I said . A couple of weeks prior another volunteer asked me if I could see one thing changed in the world - what would that be ? I said it would be an end to our corrupt culture in parliament. However I didn’t say anything violent. In the latter case the volunteer broached the subject. The first was free speech. People might well ask , why do I want to keep trying . ? Well according to the Samaritans lies . If you don’t gel with one you are free to hang up and try again .Apparently criticising the government which is full of liars and chests , anyway. Even if it’s relevant to a person’s experience. Is considered to be of a troubling and unacceptable nature for this unaccountable and transparent phobic institution.Obviously they will not practice what they preach about being an open door and safe space . In reality. There is no such liberty . The Samaritans have seemingly broken the principles of FS and illegaly so. I believe phone hacking is against the law Judging by the vast majority of reviews on here . It seems their pre set AI filter has been set to a low level to block callers on the flimsiest of excuses. Perhaps it’s an underhanded way of manipulating their caller traffic , so that it only benefits callers who follow their unhelpful and dictatorial script on how someone in emotional difficulties should express themselves. That would only be helpful to a demographic with a low IQ then and no great MH struggles . “Concerns have been raised about the content of calls “? Well then that suggests to me that calls are listened into . A volunteer friend of mine says that Callers are profiled across their National network. Callers are stigmatised, given names their accent noted and other traits logged for further detection and profiling. Acceptable responses are pre determined by narcissistic managers. . It seems the Police State has got its claws well and truly Pierced into what little free support services we have left in this country . It now seems that the mentally ill and others in the throngs of emotional distress. Have no safe place to explore their feelings. As MIND and the NHS are almost as bad as the Samaritans. But obviously the Samaritans takes the biscuit . The rottenest apple within a cart full. Help is only there if you can respond on cue and follow a script. I can’t wait until justice catches up with this near criminal organisation. In the meantime it seems like a waste of time to phone them for an explanation. As other reviewers state that, the HO will just say in effect; The computer did it “. End of.!

Excellent service just one point why…

Excellent service just one point why advertise 24/7 and a freephone number then stop people from calling and put an automated alternative phone number you state you are there to prevent suicide but basically block the caller people that are low don’t make a date when they are going to commit suicide but you are mind readers and decide to stop them using the service so what is the purpose of providing the service in the first place if you have limited access to your services notify on your website don’t put false information stating 24/7

They have never been helpful

They have never been helpful. I cannot ring them anymore. I have no confidence in them.If you are feeling suicidal and need help try ringing McDonald's or burger king instead of the Samaritans (enough said, I think I'll leave it at that for now).

Pleasantly surprised

Recently called for the first time and left feeling a little bit better and more relaxed, the man on the call seemed very empathetic and calming, I was very nervous and shaky before I called and I feel better now, give it a try if u are thinking about it! It won’t be as bad as u think it is

Samaritans is a waste of time

Samaritans is a waste of time, I've phoned them when struggling with mental health and both times felt like an inconvenience to the person that answered the phone. Won't phone again, I'll just struggle and maybe join the people upstairs instead

False Allegations

I have had a horrible experience with the Samaritans after starting a training course to become a volunteer. I am disabled and have trouble with breathing and asked for reasonable adjustments i.e. to sit in a room with a little ventilation. One night during the training I was struggling to breathe as room was so very hot. I asked to have the door open a bit as windows was shut it was doing very hot weather in September. Their chief officer who was doing the training responded by escorting me off the premises removing me from the training. I had said I am autistic as well and this was a no no. I complained about being removed from the training and the branch ignored me. So I contacted the head office. First they told them I had removed myself before making false allegations against me and saying I had not followed STAR standards of behaviour. This is some sort of behaviour standards they prescribe themselves which we hadn't even covered in the train as that was only my thirs week when they removed me. They treated me so badly I was in tears. Second week we were told to expect a practice call and to wait by our own phones. However I never got mine. Apparently everyone was 7ltoo busy" and I was only one. This was done deliberately to keep others waiting to go home and make them think I was the problem. I also asked if ui could leave a few minutes before 10pm in order to catch bus home as oi was standing in ark in unlit unsafe area and would have to wait an hourhout for next bus but they refused. Everyone else had a car and was white and middle class whereas I wasn't. When I asked how oi had breached the STAr behaviour code they said they refuse to discuss it and will not communicate further with me. So they dropped a false allegation on me and wrote they won't tell me what I am accused of and won't speak to me further. There is a complete lack of diversity and a truly discriminatory culture. Furthermore they refused any reasonable adjustments for me but let others do training course on line and when I asked why I hadn't been allowed they refused to discuss it

meant to help people?

waiting over an hour when others getting a response faster, less than 1 minute and that's a fact, on their text service, made me take more pain killers than I already took knowing no-one does care about me

Hit and miss mostly miss

This helpline has declined over recent years. Last night, someone called Kay told me suicide is selfish, and some methods are bad for Samaritans as if they involve other people, it could lead to more callers. Kay was useless and had no interest in my situation but she is symptomatic of many of the volunteers. They offer no advice, which is good but you may need to call and hang up repeatedly before a call handler is friendly and approachable. The current rate appears to be one in every eight might be a proper listener. I wonder what their training process is like now as their quality of listening has worsened. Some of the volunteers are very distant and ask the same generic questions to deny your individuality. Many of them simply want to get you off the call. Too many don't care and have minimal understanding of what it is like to suffer. If you're desperate to talk you'll go with whoever answer the call but you can tell within five seconds whether they are any good or not.
