First I think it was a big plus that my seller offered the warranty in the sale. I have been a NYC Commercial Photographer for over +35 yrs. The warranty made the difference in my acceptance to buy and now I look for it in all professional equipment listings. Then, it became really important when the lens jammed on the camera. Next day I hustled the lens and camera to my repair guys at PhotoTech NYC. They determined and demonstrated that it was the camera at fault and then advised me they were fully authorized by Allstate/ Squaretrade to do the repairs! PhotoTech NYC is huge in professional photo repair. Their New Jersey shop is just a few miles away from my studio. They advised me to do the repair, start the claim and state the repair was already in their shop and that I should NOT ship the camera anywhere as it would just end up back in their shop. But here is the only tiny negative and some advice... I entered the claim online and was only presented with the option to mail the camera somewhere else. I muddled around the frustrating Allstate website trying to effect a "local repair option" and finally got a telephone# from PhotoTech to talk to a human. The Allstate woman (Sasha?) understood my plea, took down all the details, consulted with a manager and returned with the information to make a claim to reimburse me for the local repair by PhotoTech. Her help saved EVERYONE from wasting time and money! After that it went very smoothly. I submitted all the repair documentation to Allstate online. The claim was confirmed and quickly settled with a check in the mail within a few days. I urge Allstate Protection to list a real phone contact (maybe I missed it?) hire more Sashas!! and provide more "local repair options" besides having to blow time and $$ to send the equipment away. Maybe list all the authorized repair places near a claimant's zip code?
UPDATE 4/29/2024...Well - the repair people showed up 3 days after their original quoted date and repaired the washer. The control pan worked great and from 4/18-4/29 then we came home to water all over the laundry room floor. The agent who helped us from this point forward was excellent and quick to respond getting us a full refund for the purchase of the item - this is just where things suck...the washer was originally $845...now it is $1245, so yes while we are getting or original cost of good back, we are still SOL and out an additional $400 to cover this wonderful experience. Orignal Post:Their process is pure crap. Our washing machine broke on 3/30. I called and thought I had a pleasant experience. The agent handled my claim with promptness and thought he correctly diagnosed the problem on the phone sending the part and assigning repair technician. Then the problems started. The technician said they cannot fulfill the date from Allstate of 4/3 and moved it to 4/8. The technician showed up on 4/8 and said it wasn’t a drain issue it was a control panel and left. No follow up, no guidance. I called Allstate and they thought the claim was fixed and I informed them it definitely was not fixed as we were now approaching a week and half without a washer for a family of 7. They said please give us 1-2 business days to figure this out and didn’t do anything. I had to call NFM and escalate the claim to even get a response and even then they cannot competently tell me what their plan is. Allstate scheduled another appt for 4/16 with the same repair company who then said they cannot honor that and wouldn’t be available till 4/18 for the repair. At this point I would never recommend square trade or Allstate when you buy appliances fromNFM - it’s a pure racket and we are now 3 weeks without a washer. 0/10 recommend.
