What should have been a simple TV repair turned into nearly two months of delays, frustration, and hollow apologies. I purchased a protection plan from Allstate/SquareTrade expecting peace of mind. Instead, I found myself chasing technician appointments, repeating the same story every time I called, and even being asked to submit videos of the issue—as if I was the one doing the diagnosing.The first technician made the problem worse. Then the claim was closed, and I had to start a brand-new one. Communication was awful. Emails were ignored, and no one seemed to have a record of what happened the day before.Eventually, I got a refund—but not because the system worked. I had to file a BBB complaint and email the company’s Vice President of Customer Experience to get any real attention. Even then, I received scripted emails and generic replies. They offered to replace my TV with far inferior models and still never once acknowledged how broken their process was.Their best attempt at “owning it”? A call from someone at the executive office reading from a script, telling me they were “very, very, very sorry” and that they “understood how I felt.” It was robotic, insincere, and honestly kind of insulting.What’s even more frustrating is seeing company executives receive public awards for outstanding customer service while experiences like mine are probably happening all the time behind the scenes. If this is what qualifies as excellent customer care, something’s seriously off.Yes, I got a refund—but the experience showed me that the real cost was time, energy, and trust. I wouldn’t recommend relying on their protection plans unless you’re prepared to escalate your issue just to get what you already paid for.
They are a scam !! Bought a rug and had some staining They denied claim because I didn’t file claim within 30 days I have a 5 year warranty on the rug Now they say I can’t make any future claims on the rug so hopefully they will return my money ! Buyer be aware !!
Update 08/15/25 (received reimbursement last week):ALLSTATE PROTECTION PLAN (Square Trade as mitigators)Allstate (square trade) reversed their decision on reimbursing me for the item I purchased and insured with them after multiple communications with their representatives. Covered items that should be covered!I purchased a Christmas yard decoration item from Home Depot after Christmas 2023. The item was checked for proper operation and I stored the item in the box it came in for a year. When setting up the decoration before Christmas 2024 , it would not work-operate.I took it back to Home Depot and they said the 1-year warranty had run out, but to contact Allstate about the product because insurance had been purchased for a 2-year period.Allstate refused to reimburse the cost of the item.
I have been in contact with Square Trade for over an hour and it's been miserable. I've talked with over 4 people who have chatted me in circles. The number they gave me to call has a million prompts that are not helpful and dont get you to the right department. The number eventually just hangs up. Anyone I spoke with on live chat on the site or text were completely incompetent and not helpful. It looks like Allstate will reply with a generic templated reply, which owns and solves nothing, further showing they do not care to solve the issue or be ethical. They called after seeing the review and I learned the program doesn't even cover if the software of the TV isn't working, which could have been easily communicated earlier. The person who called did say they were going to email me their personal email for future problem, of which has not yet happened.
