If you are looking to get something you know then don't get this subscription. sometimes these albums I get people have 1000s listeners and its no where near my genre of music i told them. got 8 vinyl's only ever unwrapped 1 others weren't even worth listening to.
I have been charged eight times in the past 8 months for orders I never received. Only one of the eight packages were even sent to me and when I go to my vnyl account it says that was all I have ever been charged for but money is continuously being taken out of my account. They have taken $120 dollars from me and given nothing in return. Not only are they stealing money but their customer service is awful and refusing to answer. They also make it very difficult for you to cancel your subscription as you have to contact the said customer service in order to do so.
Everything they sent me sucked. I didn't want it to contaminate my record collection. It was like getting deadstock of bands that never made it for a reason, plus one record based (poorly) on your actual tastes. They don't ask for feedback, so you can't encourage them in a different direction. Customer Service when cancelling was easy to deal with.
Make sure you don't purchase the yearly plan. I bought the yearly plan as a gift for my wife to help her start her record collection. Not only are the "curated" selections pretty garbage, but they also send us the same records throughout the year. We thought it was her last shipment, but I got hit with a yearly charge of over $315 and they are refusing to refund us even though we reached out within 1 business day. Their terms of use are full of self securing conditions where they repeatedly assert they are NOT providing refunds for any reason. My favorite is from their FAQ 'If you get a duplicate we encourage you to share the gift of music with someone who doesn't have a membership.' lol what a joke. How about I pay you and you give me something worth the money and time. Reminds me of old CD catalogue subscriptions. Will tell everyone I know to avoid this garbage service.
VNYL is not worth the trouble. The idea behind VNYL is great - curated records to your mailbox monthly. This was actually the second subscription service I tried and I definitely stuck around longer than I did for Black Box Record Club, recieving 30 records over my 10 months with the subscription.Things started out pretty well: my first two months provided albums that fit my tastes pretty well (not perfectly, but much better than my previous experience). Things went down hill quickly after that.My third month was delayed by an entire month. It took reaching out to the company to get it actually sent. After this point, every single month was late and most of them took prodding for them to actually ship. I sent an email almost every month after the third one.The music choices also went downhill quickly. I had my account tied to my Spotify and thought that maybe old listening habits (I put it on at work and had to please everyone) might be skewing what I was getting. But things didn't change after disconnecting Spotify and maxing out the "favorite artists" section. Perhaps my music tastes are too niche... but honestly the things I got were more like my "do not send" list than my favorites.I was too late to cancel when I should have and used my final months as a test. I changed ALL of my "favorite artists" to ska bands. My last box contained Alternative/Indie crap, one of which has a trumpet on a single song.Canceling was nice and easy but it did take three months to get the last box.I would not recommend VNYL to my nemesis.
Very, very underwhelming service. The only reason I am giving 3 stars is because I somehow ended up with a few records that I enjoyed. In my personal experience, I felt the records that I received were casted off artists, or stock pile records they were looking to get rid of (which there’s a reason why they had so many of them). Sometimes I got completely wrong album requested (recently selected an artist with the name ‘Johnny’, I got a Johnny Cash album… polar opposite, luckily I like Johnny Cash). I just think there are better subscriptions out there, that can be even more tailored to the listener. The special pricing offer I took advantage of to start my service was well worth it on paper, but some albums I don’t even want to listen to again.UPDATE (11/1/21): Thank God this subscription service has ended. After a full year of mediocre vinyl deliveries, the cherry on top was not only receiving a record that I did not choose out of my selections, but receiving the same Johnny Cash record that i received in my last order (which I did not request either!)! I'm lowering my rating solely because of the last shipment. How do you not keep track of the records that everyone receives?? I would totally suggest to those considering Vnyl, don't waste your time!
After I received my first order I called and said I didn't wish to receive any more records. I was assured as long as I did not order or select any records I wouldn't be charged. This was May 28th of 2020. I just discovered they continued to charge me $14.99 every single month after that. They purposely set out to defraud people hoping you wont notice the $14.99 charge every month. Their Facebook Page and BBB page are full of the exact same complaints! They owe me $254.83.
This company took my money and never sent any vnyl. My first subscription was in April and they charged my second month before I even received my first month. I promptly canceled my subscription and I am still waiting on my order. They said it was lost and they would replace it. That was over 3 months ago. Still haven't heard a peep from them. 260 other stories like mine on the Better Business Bureau. I have filed a dispute against my charge with my bank. Buyer Beware.
