It was very interesting to learn about my 'family', and where they were originally from. I was disappointed that according to the DNA results it was assumed that I was 'blonde'. Far from it, I inherited my paternal grandmother's 'flame red hair'. I did not pass this on to any of my three children, or my grandchildren. One grand-daughter is brunette with a few reddish 'highlights', especially in certain light conditions. Our great-grandson, almost two years old, is very blonde. I appreciate all the information Ancestry was able to provide. Thank you.
What Ancestry does is feed you bits of data about your actual ancestry, a bit at a time, instead of giving you all they know at once. This keeps you hanging on. I quit Ancestry because of these tactics. It stinks. Instead of plotting my lineage in a couple of months, it appeared it would take a couple of years.
I wasn’t told anything other than what I had already input myself. And it says to learn more I have to have a monthly subscription! But will I learn more???!!! I thought I would learn more about my health but nope! Not very happy and want my money back( which won’t happen). What a farce!
I'd given my son an Ancestry kit and was surprised at how thoroughly his heritage was traced. He is most of the map of Europe. It also had one tiny surprise. I became more curious about myself and bought my own kit. I was pretty confident I knew what I'd see, Ukrainian, Dutch and German but I also found out some other sides to myself. I also thought I had some French but I didn't but I am 5% Swedish! That was not expected. All this is by way of saying it was exciting to find out more of who I am at a DNA level. I'd recommend to to anyone.
The results came much sooner than expected which was great! But this experience meant the world to me. Both my parents have passed and I come from a family that only had vague ideas about our ancestry because as far as we could track everyone was born in Canada. My results showed 7 ancestral regions. Two of the regions were not really a surprise (we had suspected), and there were some hints to a couple of others. But there were some real surprises and I'm thrilled with the results. It feels like finding the missing puzzle pieces and gives you a truer sense of self. Thank you Ancestry!
This was nothing to what I thought it would be , I got no immediate family members , what I did get was 1,2 , 3, 4 cousins mostly with 1x , 2x removed. This wasn't what I expected at all , my parents or brothers and sisters wasn't shown , grandparents nothing , yet you show people coming across from somewhere on a boat , if I ever get asked , how was Ancestry , I will tell them to stay that it is nothing like it was advertised and to stay away , that it was a waste of money...
I held an Ancestry account for many years but in the last six months I have had nothing but trouble when trying to add information to my tree. I keep getting messages like 'This page is not available please try later' or the hint sign is above a name and when I go to that person in the tree it says you have reviewed all the hint for this person. Another problem is the hints come up one at a time therefore making you go back to the same person over and over again.I telephone the 0800 number and got a Far Eastern sounding person who kept repeating everything I said then she wanted part of my bank details. After that I terminated the call and told her to telephone me back by a certain time and it is now 20 minutes past the deadline and no reply. Ancestry are failing. I still have a few months of my membershipleft and am thinking of cancelling it.
