I booked a 1 week yoga retreat in Ibiza in April and what a fantastic experience! Classes were small throughout my time which allowed for an intimate practice with lots of hands on adjustments from Lottie. The staff was so welcoming and helpful and the volunteers were super lovely.All information presented on BookYogaRetreats was accurate and the booking process was seamless. The messaging section is a little clunky sometimes but it directly notifies the right person. Researching the perfect retreat was easy on the website and I will be using again.
BookYogaRetreats is a nightmare to deal with and are a scamming, money-hungry company with absolutely zero concern for their customers - all they care about is profit.Once they have your money, you'll never get it back, even if something goes wrong. Whether you're a retreat host or a customer booking through the platform, all you are is money on their bottom line.We've had numerous issues when using the platform and the appalling customer service. When a customer booked a retreat with our company via BYR by mistake, BYR refused to refund them; another customer sent their balance directly to the platform, and BYR disappeared on them and denied receiving the money. This caused extreme stress for the client and looked bad for us as retreat hosts.If you're looking to book a yoga retreat, NEVER book through this platform; they're money-grabbing and dishonest. Please always go directly to the retreat hosts - you'll receive better service and won't be giving your money to a dishonest conglomerate.Sadly, many hosts have no choice but to list with the platform because BYR dominates the SERPs and pays a lot of money for ads. If you find a retreat, you want to go to on the platform, reach out directly to the hosts instead of booking it with BYR...it will be better for everyone involved, and you can be sure you deal with a small business owner who actually cares about your custom.
The customer service is very poor and slow. I am trying to contact them for publishing a retreat for more than 2 weeks. It has been on review for longer than 3 weeks and they do not answer neither email or phone. I have finally got an answer via email to tell me to wait for naother 2 days and they do not come back to me. I contacted them again and they said it is in review and wait more. Really poor customer service.
I searched for a teacher training course on this website, and more than half of the items did not match the program description. I filed complaints on Day 2 of my trip and they simply forwarded me the replies from the organiser, which is “all items (including daily yoga class) are subject to the organiser’s own discretion” therefore the organiser has the right for not giving all the items that I paid for!!!!! As a yoga teacher myself, I have been to a few yoga trips and have never encountered such irresponsible agency and yoga school (Indepth Academy in Phuket). In the end, they just replied there is a non-refundable or the cancellation policy is invalid. They do not assign a specific CS to address your case, so I had to repeat again and again what happened to me. All in all, I could be kidnapped in a small rural area at Thailand without anyone noticing. That was how bad it was and the platform SHOULD validate all the information is correct on the course description (even the accommodation described was not the real accommodation I was put in!!)
I booked and paid in full for a retreat back in March 2020. I even bought my airline ticket. Due to Covid, American Airlines canceled my ticket and refunded my money. When I notified bookyogaretreats that the airlines canceled my ticket and I couldn't book with any other airlines to make the retreat because travel to Bali was cancelled, I asked for a refund and I was told I could only get a credit for a future retreat. They issued a credit less their required deposit. I've tried several times to rebook the retreat for the past two years but Bali was not open for travel. Just recently I was able to rebook and was told I could use the credit. I didn't bother to read the fine print until last night when I had to pull up the confirmation as I was looking for the check-out time to coordinate with my flight. That's when I saw that the balance is due upon arrival and cannot be paid by bookyogaretreats, which is where the remaining credit is!! This is a very unethical way of doing business! I am not going to fork out more money to pay for a retreat that I've already paid for in full and if I cancel, then I'm out another deposit! This is beginning to feel more and more like I've been scammed and I will make sure everyone knows by doing reviews on every site!
