Trying to cancel a trip to Spain due to health reasons was relentlessly made awkward, tedious and irritating.Although there is a choice to do so on the website, it didn’t work. Each time having answered repetitive questions and selecting confirm, I was back at the beginning.Online chat was the next option which was similarly configured.Then onto emails with the same story, albeit thankfully shorter.Considering I paid over £100 for the right to cancel added insult to injury.I cancelled accommodation I’d booked for the trip on a well known booking site in 10 seconds.I will never use this company again.
Direct Ferries is the most worthless company I have ever bought a ticket from. Firstly, it’s completely unnecessary. Please, book directly with the ferry service instead of through them. They are not reachable by phone. On weekends, they are unreachable in general. Truly shameless, their shortest e-mail response time was 48 hours. I have filed multiple complaints. Before a solution was found, they kept closing the case each time, even though there was no solution at all. This happened four times. It’s really annoying because before you can send a complaint you first have to add a shitload of information (probably to make sure not a lot of people take the effort to do so) so it’s very time and energy consuming. I changed the departure date of my return trip through their email-website system. The website showed a confirmation that it had been changed. I even thought, oh, that was easy. Great. Well, that was a huge illusion. I didn’t check my email afterward because I just assumed it was updated, as indicated on the website. But it turns out they didn’t process the change, and now they’re denying I made any changes, even though you can clearly see in the backend of the website that it was updated and what happened. So it’s all just nonsense. If this wasn’t visible in the backend of the website: develop a better website which works. The fact that they closed the case four times before finding a solution tells me they just wanted to get rid of it quickly. Their customer service is impossible, and now they’re denying it, so I’ll have to pay for my ticket twice. What a terrible company. Please, never book anything here. Just book through Stena Line or another service.Direct Ferries is a money-grabbing company with horrendously poor (completely absent) customer service.Don’t book here!!!! PS. Although they say it’s free to change your ticket if you have a flexibele ticket or whatever they call it (you pay extra for this) they still charge you extra money when you change it! This is what they told me when they were “solving” my problem. Another RIPOFF. The last minute ticket which I had to buy a few hours before the trip was even cheaper than the tickets they sell half a year in advance. DON’T BUY HERE.
Fine when everything goes to plan, as it did the first few times I used them, but if there is a problem, you find out that the customer service that sits behind the website is slow, unhelpful and I got sent repeated incorrect information about my crossing which caused delays, concern and was impossible to speak to anyone at Direct Ferries who could tell me anything useful. I complained and they wore me down - I gave up fighting in the end so will never use them again. Not worth the cost saving Vs booking with operators when you would rather have peace of mind should there be an issue with your booked ferry service.
We've had an awful experience using Direct Ferries. We have decided to avoid Direct Ferries in the future and I would recommend everyone to do the same. We had bought retour boat tickets with this company for our holidays. However, for our return trip our tickets and email notifications all had the WRONG TIME. The time on the tickets were later than the actual departure time and we've missed the boat because of this and had to scramble around to find and pay for new hotel arrangements and we had to pay the cancelation fees of our original hotel reservations that we've missed due to this incident. We've tried to reach out to them through the Dutch part of their service desk, however they've been extremely antagonistic, denying everything and eventually claiming that we've "changed" the travel arrangement and are therefore denying responsibility. We have not changed our arrangement in any way and Direct Ferries has been unwilling to give any proof that we did. Without our consent or approval they have closed our case, leaving us with no other communication options. I am perplexed that companies can do stuff like this and easily deny any responsibility. I'm leaving this review as a warning to others in the hope they can avoid a dreadful experience like us.
