Scam alert! post car rental, if you have a penalty Drivalia will slap on an extra £60 for administration fees. Understandable to have an administrative charge but WHAT exactly have they done that could costs a much as £60? The is a scam opportunity to make profit-for-doing-nothing. This is of course on top of a very unpleasant and not to be repeated experience of renting a car from them. Definite scam alert here.
Never again! Arrived at Drivalia LHR at 8pm last night (15/09/25) and went through a tedious uploading of Personal information online (whatever happened to personal service!). After about an hour of waiting we were told their computer system is down, so bad luck we won't be getting a car! Had to find our own way back to LHR and make other arrangements. Zero support other than suggesting the Enterprise car hire next door that was already shut. What made it worse was that we were told this computer system 'failure' is a regular occurrence!! Well, try a different system then. Absolutely disgusting service! Never again and will certainly advise all my friends about our bad experience.
I had a poor experience at LBA Drivalia and it felt scammy to me. I ended up leaving without a car.Made a reservation on their website, showed up and they used fear tactics typical of lower end rental companies to upsell me on insurance. The guy acted all surprised that I hadn't opted for their higher insurance option because "no one ever does that." It amounted to double the rental price to include that insurance.I was prepared for that and said no thanks, I knew I had enough coverage through my credit card. We moved on and he then made it sounds like I could get a discount on the price, not the higher insurance but the price of my original reservation. Went to pay with my card and the double price showed up on the card reader. I said, what's this. He said "that thing", trying to be vauge about what he was charging me. I again said, nope.He bumped it back to my original reservation price, and my card gets rejected 3 times in a row. Try another card, same thing. I had just used this card, I knew it was working, and I used it right after this too. It also has a high credit limit. He then said, well if you go with the higher insurance option, I don't need to put this hold on your card. After that I said just cancel it I'm out. Luckily I had other transportation options.I'm not saying he was intentionally rejecting the card to force me to the more expensive options, but it sure seemed like he was doing everything in his power to get me to take the DOUBLE the price option. I don't appreciate the pushiness, the fear tactics, the intentional vagueness. Pay the extra money and go to a reputable company.
I just called Drivalia East Midlands Airport as I wanted to know if they were a franchise or corporate location before hiring. A very rude foreign man said he was a franchise but refused to tell what his company was called and told me to rent elsewhere! I’ve had bad experiences with franchise operators at this airport which is why I was checking who they are. Avoid anyone in business who won’t tell you their legal name!!!
