Having spent several days trying to get back the £83.99 subscription fee that Emma took from my bank account without authorisation shortly after I cancelled the free trial on the App, I have now been informed that they will not return the money. This is despite me having cancelled the free trial hours before they tried to take the money from my account. I tried to stop the payment while it was still pending however my bank Chase said I had to deal with the dispute direct with the Merchant and that they were unable to stop the payment. I am now informed that Emma will not return the money.I asked the bank if this means that any free trial I sign up to could result in me being billed anyway - even if I cancel within the specified time frame - and they say that yes this could happen.A warning for anyone signing up to free trials as it looks as if you can be charged anyway. I will be taking this to the Ombudsman but I wanted to warn others who might be considering signing up.
I thought that, with the name “Emma” and the teddy bear icon, the app would be lightweight and superficial. I used Moneydance for 12 years but they didn’t enbrace open banking and their IoS apps were very poor. I’ve been with Emma 10 days now, and no more manual downloading of data! I’m finding ways of doing pretty much everything a more heavyweight programme does. But because the programme has to fit on a phone screen, which can’t display a big range of data, it does mean drilling down in paths that often aren’t intuitive. I have found the answers in ChatGPT. I looked up Emma’s ownership and was surprised and impressed to find that the accessible guy on the helpdesk, Edoardo, is actually one of the 2 designers and still a major shareholder. I do hope the app is profitable.
I have ADHD and needed to get a grasp on what was actually going out of my accounts each month. The Emma App allowed me to easily connect to my bank, pull the details together and present exactly what I needed to know in a clear and concise way.Easy to use.Easy to understand.Consolidates all my information in one place.Cheap at £1.50 a month!
