I prepaid a car rental via Expedia with Sicily by Car at Verona Airport using a Visa Premier debit card, which was accepted during booking.
At pickup, the rental desk refused to provide the car because I did not have a credit card for the deposit. This requirement was not clearly highlighted before payment and appeared only in fine print.
I was not allowed to cancel and had to rent another car immediately from a different company at additional cost.
The booking process should clearly state essential requirements before payment to avoid customers being denied service on arrival.
I am extremely disappointed with Expedia. With everything going on in Mexico and the travel chaos surrounding it, I expected at least some level of understanding or flexibility. Instead, I got absolutely no help.
They refused to assist with a credit refund and offered zero meaningful support for a flight change. No accommodation, no solutions, no effort — just scripted responses and being passed around in circles. When customers are dealing with uncertainty and safety concerns, this is when a travel company should step up. Expedia did the opposite.
I will not be using their service again. If something goes wrong with your trip, don’t expect them to have your back.
Absolutely terrible experience. Coming from a college student who had to recently abruptly cancel their Mexico trip due to poor conditions, I would never book a flight through expedia again. We have been through hell and back trying to get them to abide by the proper flight credit transferration policy and they have been nothing but difficult and we have been told different things by every single employee. Genuinely would never book through them again- all they want is money and they're genuinely willing to lie to you to do so.
Booked a rental in Mexico for pick up AT the airport. Couldn't find them at the airport. Had to figure out with a language deficit! Finally had someone drives us to the rental company. Looked so risky!! Started to try to communicate what the agreement was with Expedia and they refused to rent us the car without their insurance, but Expedia said we had some insurance coverage when we booked with them. They would not rent without their insurance which would cost us hundreds and hundreds more along with a hold of $1800 in case of accidents. We refused, called Expedia and they said we won't refund your money because your past the deadline to cancel. How can I cancel the day before I pick up my rental car? I can't tell you've scammed me until I get there. I spent a good amount of time trying to get my money back, but they would NOT budge. They said read the agreement, too bad for you. They ruined hours and hours of our vacation during the most stressful time of the vacation and we had to find our own rental car. stress, stress, stress and a lot more money we were not prepared to spend. I've never had a problem with booking flights with them, but I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. Also contacted credit card to try to get my money back. That's in progress. Please don't use!!!
Garden inn no toilet seat bad attitude rude been 24 hours still can't use restrooms no elevators at all I was very surprised Expedia. Com. No no worse ever in my life and I paid for 2 days and they wanted more money Im not leaving a tip and I don't do that I was a five star maid went to school took a brief class in my 20s jail is cleaner oh my goodness this didn't help some people I would send some people to close this down .
I had to book a rental car thru expedia and it was no refund. They gave a vendor called Routes in Puerto Rico. Where i have to wait whole day and eventually i didn't got the car and they charged the money and disagree to refund and showing status as no-show (where i submitted chat with proof) still disagreeing with refund. If they don't value customers. Then, customers would value them too and stop using it.
Expedia used to offer good service. Not any more! I called to have hotel reservation moved up 2 nights. Was told all they had to do was check with hotel. After calling hotel, they say expedia never called and they were not busy. Yet several emails claim they were not able to reach hotel. Not true. All 5 times I called hotel, i wss able to get an agent on within one minute. I will cancel all other reservations and book with a reputable company. I called to ask if my flight was fully refundable and the woman kept saying "you are calling to cancel my flight?" I said I needed info but was not ready to cancel yet. I had to say the same thing 3 times and she still didn't get it. I speak clearly. I said i would call back. That seemed to be a language issue.
Was trying to rent a car to go out of town for Valentine's Day with with wife. Booked a car through Expedia and Routes Car Rental. It was by far the worse experience I have ever had and I have been renting cars since I was 23 and I'm 44 now. It feels like either Routes or Expedia or both are trying to steal people money. I booked received email from Routes 10 minutes after the reservation time when I can't make changes. They said they don't rent to local. Went back to look and had to click on 3 links and scroll down to find where it said that. All I wanted was to get payment returned.
Sounds like I'm only one of many 1 stars on here but I'll add anyway. We booked a Valentine's Day/Anniversary trip to Punta Cana and within 12 hours of booking we had a family emergency. I immediately signed in and went to my account and it said I had 5 days to cancel "for a full refund" so I took that option. After 10 days with no refund I go back into my account, thinking it's just taking a bit. Nope, suddenly it's the hotel who has the policy of no refunds and they "tried to get our thousands of dollars back" but couldn't, so sorry. I've been using Expedia off and on for years but this is it.
Trying to find out from Expedia NZ before booking one of their advertised business class fares regarding shared booking codes proved to be an impossibility. Either the chat person disconnected or the phone call didnt go through. And they seriously think I am parting with 9000 dollars with such an abysmal service in place ? Out and over to Emirates. It costs more, but at least I don't end up being scammed.
