Review Time
Between my time with MetLife and, more recently, Farmers (after the acquisition of MetLife’s business 4-5 yrs ago), I’ve had over 30 years of continuous coverage. In all that time, I never filed a claim (other than a few windshields/side window) or was at fault in an accident—neither myself, my wife, nor, more recently, my kids. I was a low-risk, long-term customer—reliable and loyal.Unfortunately, that didn’t seem to count for much. Here’s what I experienced when my AUTO insurance was canceled. I found out not from Farmers but from the Massachusetts RMV. Incredibly, they NEVER communicated with me. Here's a summary:- Policy becomes on track for cancelation after a single attempt to charge my card, followed by a vague email about updating autopay settings.- No meaningful effort to reach me when the payment failed—just a claim that multiple USPS letters were sent, including a required 20-day cancellation notice. I NEVER GOT A SINGLE LETTER, NOT ONE!- No phone call, no clear emails—just silence, despite the severity of canceling a policy.- None of these alleged USPS mailed notices appeared in my online account inbox, where policy documents and important correspondence are typically stored. If cancellation notices aren’t posted there, that’s a serious system flaw. I guess they only mail them...really???- Shockingly, my account was marked “Do Not Call”—not by me. So again, no outreach, just quiet cancellation. All of this feels like a quiet effort to wind down legacy MetLife accounts and show me a much, much more expensive policy (50% HIGHER)….or the DOOR (I chose the latter).I was a model policyholder for decades and expected far better treatment. Very disappointing.Fight for clients and be an advocate for change is a good/great business culture but not when there’s a quietly understood mantra of don’t rock the boat or you could be “shown the exit”. Feels like Farmers has that attitude. Nobody and I mean nobody wanted to help me; a new biz rep was the closest to understanding the situation but that’s not her responsiblity so she couldn't do much.My advice when considering Farmers...DON'T, RUN AWAY!!!!
Horrible customer service, rates are out of control for no reason and overall I don't recommend ANYONE ever going with this company. I've had nothing but billing problems, the agents can barely speak proper english or understand what you say, and they hang up on you when you are questioning and asking about the policies. Stay clear from this nightmare of a company!!!!
it would be negative if possible. i pay thousands in premiums through my company, and they are telling me i have to pay 55000, not a typo, before i get anything on my roof claim. These people are criminals. urge everyone to contact your legislature and the department of insurance.
I have had bad experiences with homeowner’s insurance as well as auto. I had a lender placed insurance because the insurance company did not send over the proper papers. $1000 wasted to correct. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when my class coverage was removed from $100 to $1000 without my consent. Everything is a recorded line, so investigations should have happened to see that I never asked for that or approved. I canceled Farmea and I am saving a lot of money. I wish I would have read reviews before I was allowed to be exploited.
Absolutely horrible customer service. As a contractor I deal with 10 to 15 claims a week. This entire company from the agents to the adjuster are beyond unprofessional and rude. Anyone shopping around for insurance please use someone else. They will deny your claims, give you the run around, low ball your claim amount. I highly recommend anyone other then this company.
Horrible. I called in to cancel my account because I want to go with another company since I did not like their service and mistreatment. They told me I don’t need to make any official cancellation which was a lied and they sent my account to collections. They are so rude and have horrible communication skills. They lied and tried to overcharge me. I absolutely hate them.
A Farmers insurance insured client hit our vehicle - her fault documented fully by police report. Farmer claim took almost a week to get back with us - we have a high end luxury SUV - they told me their body shops didn't like to repair luxury cars to call the dealer and see what body shop they use - I did and took the car to the body shop and was informed it wasn't safe to drive so I had to leave the car and get the rental car which was a big hassle with Farmers trying to put us in a cheap sedan when we have medical issues as well and require a SUV - finally got that done - inferior car to ours but an SUV. Then they rejected the body repair amount and the body shop said they were asking them to repair the car at substandard to the Genesis policy for repair and they (the body shop) refused to agree to that. Then Farmers started notifying me they would just send me a check for the lower amount and I'm stuck with the balance and all the stress. TERRIBLE SERVICE and TERRIBLE POLICY - could care less about doing what is right. It's all about money and this is why the insurance industry is so disrespected. Our claim agent was Hilary Ward but they're all probably the same. We turned this over to our insurance carrier who will pay for everything and go after farmers for the money so I don't have to deal with Farmers again. If I could give them a negative rating I would.
I attempted to call my insurance agent at Farmers to get my claims history letter. It became apparent that they started ignoring my calls and emails after I mentioned that I wanted to cancel my insurance, even though I was still covered at the time. The behavior was quite petty. If you're looking for professional and satisfactory customer service, they would definitely not be my first choice.

Different Eras, Same Exceptional Service
Farmers not only prides itself on helping you plan wisely for the unexpected, but also on helping restore order when it occurs, so you can keep moving along the road of your life’s plans.
In 1959 a Farmers customer wrote us a letter of surprised gratitude when his car battery was replaced just an hour after it was stolen. A letter from a couple in 2002 wrote that their Farmers agent and Claims Adjuster “were exceptional in their handling of our grief, what we needed to do, and helpful in many other ways.” That same year, when Hurricane Rita struck Beaumont, Texas, Farmers sent 300 agents to assess damages while policy holders were evacuated. Farmers also donated $100,000 for the city’s emergency operations center and two megawatt generators that restored power to Beaumont. Whatever year or decade a disaster occurs, you can count on us to be there for you.
