Review Time
As a first time buyer, Louis and team at Gordon Brown made the process easy and relatively pain free! My only criticism (& it is minor) is that it would've been nice to have a piece in the "welcome pack" which states what proof of deposit you need, so that when the times comes near the end of the process, you have it all ready and waiting and not have such a rush trying to find all the evidence of the deposit origins.Would definitely recommend Gordon Brown Law, and would happily use again if I ever need to.
Our offer on the property was accepted on 8 August. As of Thursday afternoon, 18 December, more than four months later, we are still unsure whether completion will take place tomorrow, on the eve of the firm’s Christmas shutdown.Throughout the process, timelines have repeatedly shifted. We have been given repeated indications that completion was imminent, only for new issues to arise at the last possible moment. Most recently, the mining report was only sent to the lender on Monday, yet we were still told that completion could take place on Friday, despite it being clear that lender approval within this timeframe carried significant risk.It is now Thursday afternoon, and we remain without clarity. We have been told the matter is currently with a valuer, who cannot be contacted or rushed, meaning there is no way to confirm progress or timescales. Despite this, we have continued to be given hope of completion, which has repeatedly been raised and then left unresolved, offering little to no relief.Every time we have contacted the firm for answers, our solicitor has been unavailable. We have instead been directed to the support team, whose communication has often felt condescending and dismissive, leaving us feeling unfairly judged for being stressed about circumstances that directly affect our lives. The emotional toll of this has been overwhelming. The constant cycle of hope followed by uncertainty has left us mentally and physically exhausted. We are relocating and have new jobs starting in January, and due to the ongoing delays, we are now facing the very real possibility that one of us could be left without accommodation, effectively at risk of homelessness. This situation reflects a wider pattern of poor communication, unrealistic timelines, and a lack of empathy. The prolonged uncertainty has had a profound impact on our mental health, to the extent that friends and colleagues have advised us to seek mental health support due to how severely this process has affected us.At this stage, this is no longer simply about delay — it is about the failure to manage expectations responsibly, communicate honestly, and recognise the serious real-life consequences for clients
Quite simply, after the service my daughter received through Gordon Brown law, I would honestly say avoid like the plague.Go and use a local legal firm where you can deal with one professional person that you can visit in person if the need arises. Don’t go down the route of a recommended firm by your broker, in this case L&C mortgages. Very disappointing. If you want service that you would expect from a legal firm don’t waste your money with Gordon Brown. No doubt a generic reply will come back saying that I was not their customer. Please note even being given full authority by my daughter to act on her behalf, they don’t accept that. So if you are helping your kids through the process of buying a property GB law is not the firm to go with. Again go local,Read all the negative reviews and one person stands out, unfortunately for my daughter this is who dealt with her case. If you already have this person, the very best of luck!
An absolutely terrible service from Gordon Brown Law. Our conveyancer, Lee P was awful from the beginning. He did not want to communicate, reply to messages without being chased numerous times, contact anyone in order to expedite the completion and basically do any work for us. He even at one point said that he was too busy to do anything to move our purchase forward, as he was working on people who were further along…..He dragged everything out for so long, we ended up homeless for 3 weeks, with 3 children and I was undergoing radiotherapy. We pulled out of our purchase (not Lee’s fault), but if he had done his job properly and actually chased things up, we would have been able to stay in our rental.I cannot begin to hope that no one else uses this company. They were recommended by L&C and I think they should reconsider offering them as an option.

Thank you to Gordon Brown Law - Team Valley Trading Estate office. We instructed/ worked with them ion the estate of my late Mum's home and my wife and I's home. Seamless service from start to finish. Gordon Brown Law - Sara T took on any of the burden, queries with both homes. Transition of both homes was brilliant, a few niggles with our home I.e. fence but that was quickly rectified by us. Communication amazing from start to finish, plenty of updates throughout the whole process. Can't thank Sara T enough she is a credit to Gordon Brown Law. Our solicitor, Shafa, was very professional, informative and knowledgeable in dealing with the sale of our families house. Communication with the buyers solicitor and also the solicitor who held the house in our families trust was swift and handled superbly, making a not so straight forward sale seamless.
