Avoid them at any cost .
Booked a van in Ilford just to find the previous renter in the car park trying to finish his booking with no success , every time he tried to finalise it was giving him a different error. Because he couldn't finish his booking I couldn't start mine.
The worst part yet to come , ok , I know sometimes apps have bugs and it is not working as it should BUT you should at least have someone available on the chat lets say in 10-15 minutes , 1 hour is just ridiculous. And not only that they were not available on the chat , if you try to call them be ready to pay for it . Ended up with an extra £10 spent and still couldn't reach them , plus an hour that waited to get the van ....
Absolute disgrace of a company.

During feb 2026 I rented a car from Hertz at Schiphol Airport Amsterdam
Two days after returning the vehicle, I received a digital invoice charging me a significant amount for alleged damage.
The car was returned in the same condition, and no damage was mentioned at handover.
No evidence was provided — no photos, videos, inspection report, or repair estimate — yet my credit card was charged immediately. When I requested documentation, I received only a vague response without proof.
Charging customers without clear evidence is unprofessional and unfair. I expected transparency and accountability, but received neither.
Be Carefull! Dont trust them

Rental experience was satisfactory, but customer service was terrible

The rental process itself went smoothly, but the customer service was appalling. After a brief trip, I returned the vehicle to the airport. In the chaos of transporting my children and luggage, I accidentally left my glasses in the center console. When I called the support team, a representative informed me that they were closed. I simply wanted them to set my glasses aside, but I was told to call back later in the week to retrieve them. When I followed up with the details, they promised to return my call, but that never happened. I then sent an email explaining the situation about my glasses. Eventually, they replied, but only to mention a wallet that they supposedly couldn't find—clearly, they hadn't even read my email properly! Later, I was informed they had found my sunglasses, but I had left my regular glasses. It seems they might discard items when clearing out the car or take other belongings without any concern. Additionally, the service was advertised as being conveniently located at the airport, but it turned out to be a bus ride away, which was not ideal with children in tow.

The worst experience I've ever had with a rental service!

This is the worst experience I've ever had with a rental service! Be cautious about sharing your bank details, as they withdraw funds from your account without any notification or justification. They called me an hour before my rental was supposed to begin to inform me that no cars were available—I had a funeral to attend, and I couldn't get there! Later, I was charged £114, and it took me two days and countless calls to discover that it was for a 'no show up fee.' Can you believe that?! After a week, they emailed me saying I would receive a refund within 30 days... I'm still waiting. Just a few days later, I rented a van for 4 days at a price of £96, but after our phone conversation ended, I received a message from my bank stating I was charged £224! So once again, I had to call them! This company is simply ridiculous.

Avoid this van rental service at all costs!

I strongly advise against using this van rental service! They charged me twice, which is utterly unacceptable! The customer support was non-existent! I was charged illegally for fuel on two occasions! As someone with a disability living on a tight budget, I expected to pay £62, as confirmed in the agreement, but they took £90 instead! Even after proving I returned the vehicle with more than enough diesel, they refused to refund me. The total cost for a £62 van ended up exceeding £100! Now, I have to contact my bank to reclaim my money! The customer service representatives were rude and astonishingly unhelpful!

Don’t use hertz van hire!

Don’t use hertz van hire!! They double charge u!!! Absolutely disgusting company!!! No customer service!!! Illegally charged me twice for fuel!!! I’m a disabled person on a very low income. Should’ve been £62 had a message saying it was £62 as per agreement they took £90!!!! Wouldn’t return my money even though I proved I had put more than enough diesel in on return. Charged me twice for diesel and mileage!! A £62 van ended up being over £100 in total!! I’m having to go to my bank to get it back!! Avoid avoid avoid!!! Customer service was rude and shockingly unhelpful!!

They dont return deposit

When i got there the deposit was increase from £500 to £700I never recieved deposit back! Car needed 4 litres of fuel and they charge £4.50 per litre I will avoid in future

Well for such a well known name I’ll…say they’re DISGRACE

Well for such a well known name I’ll say their customer service is a complete and utter disgrace with zero care for a shocking situation. They left me with. This is simple or so I thought. Hire a small van to help my son move house. Arrange to collect from my local Costco. Arrive to collect on a Saturday. NO VAN Every phone number unavailable. Can’t speak to a human being then try online chat at the collection. Insufficient data stream so comms awful. After 3 attempts to speak to the online chat to find someone with a modicum of common sense There never was a van. Off the road for maintenance That took me 2 hours with a cursory shall I cancel your booking then ? Here’s an e mail to complain to Then I see on my banking statement they’ve taken the rental I’ll sort that this morning. Worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. Just shocking. Meanwhile my son is now still awaiting to move house !!

Van hire via 24/7 app - recommended!

Booked a van for 2 hours via their 24/7 app - delighted with the experience. You have to install the app, give Bluetooth, location & camera permissions but, having done that it worked perfectly. Pickup location was convenient and price good value. On pickup you use the app to take condition photos, but that’s before you can get in & drive it so if it’s close against a wall the pics may not show all the pre-existing damage. Same routine on drop off. All worked well - recommended. 👍
