One person at the desk for twenty people, inexperienced worker. Poor service attitude, increased fees. Taking an Uber and renting out on town for someone trustworthy. Good trip turned to a horrible experience.
By far the worst company you can deal with, I have a refund that was supposed to be processed and going into 90 days still no refund, I've called them numerous times and I get the same answer each and everytime 7-10 days but refund is never done. Stay away !
We traveled to
S.D for a funeral.
Checked price of rental when we made plane reservations. We were quoted $53 a day. We got a crappy car and paid $159 a day. We had no choice as it was a family funeral. Then there were all the extra fees. !5 min late resulted into another $53.
Hertz rental desk inside the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa (200 Nohea Kai Dr, Lahaina, HI 96761) — extremely disappointing experience.
I had a reservation for 2/15/26 at 8:00 AM (large SUV). I got in line at 7:55 AM with only one person ahead of me and still didn’t receive a vehicle until 8:31 AM because the only representative left the desk to “check the lot” for availability. When she returned, she said the vehicle class I reserved was not available and provided a non-comparable vehicle instead.
The representative also stated the vehicle had not been cleaned and attempted to wipe sand/dust off with a cloth during the walk-around. She told me the vehicle was about half a tank of gas and said she “marked it in the system.” She did not—my paperwork reflected 100% fuel at pickup.
I returned the vehicle the same day after driving 47 miles and was charged $52.79 for fuel, claiming 6.88 gallons were needed to return it to full. That is not plausible for 47 miles (the vehicle gets over 20 mpg), and it also ignores the fact the vehicle was not full when I received it. This looks like inaccurate fuel documentation at pickup, and I was billed for it.
To make matters worse, I contacted Hertz support immediately after my red-eye back to Denver when I saw the fuel charge and have received no response after four business days. Phone support and live chat were no help either.
Between the lack of the reserved vehicle class, the unclean car, the fuel discrepancy, and the lack of support afterward, this was an unacceptable experience. I’m requesting a full refund.
We reserved a 7 passenger vehicle and when we got to the Jacksonville airport they said they didn’t have any. So why was it advertised and why was I able to book it if they did not have any of those vehicles. We had to cram everyone in a 5 seater which was very uncomfortable. They did nothing to make up for their mistake so please do not rent from them. The have false advertising.
My experience with Hertz has been one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.
From the very beginning, there were problems with the car key, which caused unnecessary stress and wasted time. Instead of resolving the issue professionally, staff were slow, unhelpful, and showed a complete lack of responsibility.
Things only got worse when parking fines were involved. Hertz paid fines on my behalf without informing me, then charged me an additional admin fee, completely removing my legal right to challenge the fines. This is unacceptable. I had valid grounds to appeal, but Hertz decided to act without consent or notification.
When I tried to contact them to resolve this, emails were blocked, customer service was unresponsive, and no one took ownership of the problem. Getting a simple explanation or written authorisation felt impossible.
Overall, Hertz showed:
• Poor communication
• Lack of transparency
• Disrespect for customers’ legal rights
• Extremely weak customer service
This company caused me financial loss, stress, and wasted time. I would strongly advise anyone — especially professional drivers — to avoid Hertz unless you want problems, fines, and no support when things go wrong.
Never again.
Hertz is running a blatant double-billing scam
I paid 155euros via a booking site to rent a small car, toyota yaris, at rotterdam airport.
Then a few days after returning the car, they charged me an extra 192.63euros for items already in my prepaid voucher and for insurance I specifically said I did not want at the time of picking up the car.
In total I paid 403.65euros and still fighting to get my money back...
On top of that, the car was neglected and unsafe to drive.
The oil maintenance light was on and the washer fluid was empty.
This is fraudulent creative billing designed to steal from customers.
They provide zero service and zero safety. It was my first time using Hertz, it will be my last as well.
Yesterday, I talked to one of your reps about a flat tire. She referred me to a corporate line. I called them and was told I could receive a voucher and that AAA would pick up the Tesla Model 3 for delivery to the Pep Boys Tire shop. However, the shop they referred to was closed, so the drivers decided to drop it off at Les Swab, which was nearby. Swab replaced the tire for a bill of approximately $ 288.
Swab called the Aurora office and reached the Hertz representative. She said I had to pay. I returned the call and told her they would cover it. She disagreed and insisted I had to pay for it, then corrected herself and said she didn't care who paid, but they wouldn't be, which was false. After I explained that I didn't have to pay and that, even if they refused, I'd have either my credit card insurance or my business insurance (State Farm), she hung up on me. I called back and stated, "Maybe we got off to a wrong start. I was only trying to say that I wasn't required to pay for it." She kept cutting me off, insisting she didn't care and that somehow it was my responsibility, then hung up on me, again. I called back to ask why she kept hanging up on me. She has repeatedly hung up on me, even before this interaction. When I rented a car from another location, she promised to switch me to another car if I called back in the morning, but when I did, she broke that promise and, without another word, rudely hung up on me. In the last conversation, I asked for her name, and she countered, " What is your name? I don't even know you. I told her my full name, and she reiterated that I was responsible for the car's repair and hung up. I tried to call back to speak to a Supervisor, but no one answered. Also, I paid for the car repair because the corporation did not provide the voucher to the right autoshop. The AAA driver took the car to the wrong shop. I called maintenance, who lied and said I was told to go only to network shops, but no one, or an email, told me about a specific shop. The AAA driver decided to take it to another tire center, not me. Had I known, I would have course-corrected the driver's mistake. I am filing a complaint not only with your local office in Aurora for rude service, erroneous information, and a car with low tread, according to Les Swab. I will tell Amex, my credit card company, and review sites that Hertz at these Uber locations consistently provides poor service, making it difficult for Uber drivers to do their jobs.
I have been a loyal customer for years, renting from various locations without any issues. However, my recent experience at a specific location was incredibly frustrating and alarming. I returned the vehicle as directed, only for it to be stolen shortly after. Despite this, I was charged for a missing key and an excessive towing fee from a nearby town. To make matters worse, the manager incorrectly informed the authorities that they were unsure if I had returned the vehicle and claimed that the cameras were not functioning to verify what happened. I attempted to correct him in front of the police, yet he continued to lie, putting me in a precarious situation with the local law enforcement. I am profoundly disappointed by how this was managed. Not only was I unfairly charged, but the manager's behavior made me feel unsafe, leaving me without a proper way to defend myself. After this experience, I will be seeking services elsewhere. I hope this review serves as a warning to others about the challenges I faced. Exercise caution when renting from this location, as their customer service and issue resolution are lacking.
My Christmas was ruined. Being five months pregnant and dealing with seizures, along with stage 4 lymphoma, made this situation even worse. After renting a car and opting for roadside assistance for peace of mind, I found myself stranded on the side of the road in Wyoming for four and a half hours. The service refused to arrange a tow from a nearby town, despite it being accepted by a local towing company. This cancellation triggered a stress-induced seizure, causing me to miss my family’s Christmas choir and the joy of opening gifts together. When I returned the car and explained my distressing experience to a compassionate employee, I witnessed the company’s manager leave in a rather unsympathetic manner. Later, I received a call from a manager offering me $50 as compensation. I plan to escalate this matter to the relevant authorities, as my health, holiday, and trust have all been severely impacted. I strongly advise against renting from this service if you value safety and security, as they do not deliver on their promises.
