We purchased a portable wifi for our 18 day stay in Japan, since we were a family of 3. We picked up the wifi very easily from the airport and all the instructions given were very user friendly. We left from another airport and we could post the wifi in a self addressed envelope. It was super convenient and we had unlimited wifi throughout. Together with the wifi we were also given a power bank which came very useful.
I had a great experience with the Japan Experience SIM card. The price was very good, and the delivery was fast. The instructions for activating the SIM were clear and easy to follow. I used it during my 20-day trip without any issues. I highly recommend it!
Buying the Sim card was super easy and it arrived quickly. Following the instructions to set everything up in my phone was also not to hard (just a bit confusing since it's in English and my phone settings are in German and sometimes things look a little different - but I figured it out). After arriving in Japan I switched on the Sim and (as last time) it took abou 10 to 15 minutes to fully activate. But afterwards I had a great connection everywhere I went (mostly major cities but also a few more remote spots).
Bought a service i could not used in Japan, i explained the situation and Even though i sent Osaka enter inf refusas they refused to reimburse me arguing it was possible to get on, which was not ok when i wanted 1 hour show the tickets and get refused. 3 year i buy at japan expérience other time was ok but this time not ok, very anoying to be treated like its your fault we will not charge u back even with that happened, all ost like you lie it was possible to get in. And the solution « step by step » proposed did not work, impossible ton register on their website therefore impossible to get a barcode, and impossible to get in with all the documents sent to me (mail, order, original ticket, purchase proof). Not acceptable
We ordered our Japan Rail Passes from Japan Experience six weeks before our family trip (two adults and four children). We chose Royal Mail Signed For delivery. Tracking shows the package got stuck at the Beckenham Post Office and was never delivered.Japan Experience acknowledged that we never received the passes — yet they refuse to issue a refund for six months, saying they need to wait for Royal Mail’s investigation and Japan Rail to cancel tickets. We’re now almost £1,100 out of pocket, with no tickets and no resolution. This situation has seriously affected our holiday and budget. Communication has been unhelpful. While I understand delays can happen, refusing to refund customers when delivery clearly failed is unacceptable.I would strongly advise others to avoid ordering Japan Rail Passes through Japan Experience until they improve their refund and customer service policies. BUY DIRECTLY FROM JR RAIL!
Buying & using Shinkansen tickets bought online:We bought tickets to Takayama via the ‘Japan Experience’ website’. Bureaucratically everything worked fine – selection, payment etc. We had no difficulty making reservations. Email safely received containing an order number (which we found needs to be ignored!) and a QR code (which was needed). The most important information was contained not in the email but in the attached PDF.If you are new to Japan, read all the paperwork and associated links very carefully. Travelling in Japan is very well organised, but getting used to it takes some time! When trying to collect tickets, you need first to identify the correct machine (see instructions in PDF/on website). Select your appropriate language option. The machine currently asks for a 4-digit PIN – which you have not got – or an order number (which is NOT the number printed in large letters across the main text of the email and which you should ignore - despite what the email says!) and/or asks for the relevant mobile phone number (this is NOT your personal mobile phone number, nor any of the numbers contained in the email text!) The number you require is printed in RED in the middle of the PDF user guide! Having scanned the QR code, a new page will open on the ticket machine asking for the mobile number. Insert the number printed in RED in the PDF at this point; bingo your tickets will appear! When using the tickets at an electronic wicket gate, if you have both a fare ticket and a reservation ticket, insert BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY into the machine and they will be returned to you as you exit the gate. If you have to change trains and have e.g. 3 tickets altogether, such as a fare ticket right through and separate reservation tickets for 2 different trains, when changing trains, you will need to insert ALL THREE tickets SIMULTANEOUSLY and appropriate tickets will be returned to you as you exit the gate. All quite confusing when first you encounter it, but ok, once you’ve been through the system for the first time. Despite the complications outlined above, booking in advance and remotely is much less of a hassle than trying to make last minute bookings at a machine in Japan. Trains are heavily used and are often full or almost completely full.
