Review Time
I strongly advise against renting from Next Car/ Summit rent a car in El Calafate. We paid a premium price for a 4x4 pickup truck, expecting a reliable vehicle for the area’s terrain, but what we received was a complete disaster.
Ancient & Unsafe: The vehicle was a model from the year 2020 with over 180,000 km. It felt like it was literally falling apart; the bumpers were held together with metal wires! We were constantly terrified it would break down in the middle of nowhere.
Filthy Condition: The car was disgusting. A spare tire was dumped in the trunk, leaving no room for suitcases. Everything was so dirty that every time we handled our luggage, we had to clean the bags and our clothes.
Zero Dust/Rain Protection: Driving on gravel roads was a nightmare as dust filled the entire cabin. The cargo cover was already torn, and they warned us not to touch it so it wouldn't tear further. When we asked for a replacement, they showed us another car where the cover wouldn't even close, threatening our luggage would get soaked in the rain.
Abysmal Service: Instead of taking responsibility, the staff pressured us to make a split-second decision, claiming there were no other cars available.
This was an expensive mistake. Save your money and your safety—rent from a reputable company instead. Highly NOT recommended.
If I could give negative stars I would. Let’s start with the pickup debacle. We were picked up from the airport and shuttled to an industrial district not far from the airport. We arrived well before the time on our reservation just to wait in line for over a hour. There wasn’t a single person in sight, white booths with a screen took the place of an actual person helping you (which had zero ventilation, in 90 Florida heat). When it was finally our turn to enter the human sized easy bake oven, it was still before our reservation pick up time. The person we spoke to was personable.. at first.. until he wasted about 25 minutes going over a few things to then say, “you’re late for picking up your reservation. There is a late fee..” which I kindly advised him that we had been there well before the pick up time waiting in line and I had tried calling their customer service number to be met with a automated message that literally led to no one. He waived the late fee as a “courtesy” and we went about the next 45 minutes shut in this stuffy, hot, sweatbox going over our reservation. He took the deposit of $250, up sold us the toll package,($19 a day, but if you don’t purchase it they’ll charge you $35 a day. Yea.. make that make sense.) and the amount of the rental. We get outside to the vehicle and we leave. The car got us to and from where we needed to go, however, someone from the previous drive left their worn socks in the vehicle and the battery in the key fob was dying. But considering we went with the cheaper option, we just dealt with it. Fast forward to returning the vehicle. We ensured the gas tank was full, the car was spotless and we had made sure that we had followed the directions to a tee (we took before and after pictures and videos because we did not get a “this place seems trustworthy” vibe, but by the time we got there it was too late to cancel so we were kind of stuck). We left thinking we were in the clear. NOPE. Got the itemized list to find out that they had found a way to charge almost DOUBLE what we had agreed upon with hidden fees and surcharges. Moral of the story, pay a little extra to go to a reputable car rental agency because in the end it would have been cheaper than to do business with NextCar. Will. Never. Use. Them. Again. Also shame on Expedia for somehow giving this company a 4 star rating. I felt like I could trust their review but I’ve learned my lesson there too.
Extremely disappointing experience with this rental service, avoid at all costs.
Reasons:
1. Our family waited over half an hour for the shuttle at the airport.
2. They charged $110 in hidden fees for insurance despite already having our own.
3. We were kept waiting for more than 2.5 hours. I would rate this rental car negatively.
This service is a total scam... I deeply regret my choice to book, which turned out to be the worst decision of my life. I initially booked for $400 online, but ended up paying $1200. Here are the issues I faced:
1) We arrived to pick up the vehicle and waited nearly 2 hours to receive it.
2) They claimed only one car was available and that we would need to pay an additional $25 per day for an upgrade.
3) They informed me that my current car insurance was inadequate, charging me $45 per day.
4) I was given a vehicle with a tire that had low air pressure. When I pointed this out, they temporarily filled it to silence the warning. However, the warning returned as soon as we reached our hotel, and the tire pressure dropped significantly. The next day, a mechanic confirmed it wasn’t flat but required daily air refills, which we did. Since we were already on the freeway from Miami to Orlando, returning the car was not an option. I attempted to contact them, but their phone never worked, and no one answered customer support. We had no choice but to continue driving. For a week, we filled the tire twice daily (spending nearly $50 on air), and when we raised these issues upon returning, they simply ignored us, claiming that once the car is taken outside, they are no longer responsible.
5) Additionally, they charged me around $8 per gallon for the remaining gas, which was never disclosed at the time of pickup.
They intentionally hide these extra costs. If I could give a -5 rating, I would, but since that's not an option, I had to settle for 1 star. I strongly advise anyone to NEVER use this service, as they aim to exploit customers without any empathy, loyalty, or genuine service.
The rental experience was frustrating and felt dishonest from booking to final charges, especially for travelers. The final cost at the counter was significantly higher than the initial online quote, with numerous add-ons suddenly deemed 'mandatory' at pickup. Additional charges for insurance, toll passes, and mileage were aggressively pushed, despite not being clearly communicated during the reservation process. Staff refused to accept valid personal auto insurance or credit card rental coverage, insisting on selling their own overpriced insurance. Customers felt pressured to pay much more than anticipated, with the impression that the rental would not be released without purchasing their insurance. Furthermore, the company requires substantial security deposits, often in the thousands, which far exceeds what many mainstream rental services charge. The overall experience, characterized by hidden fees, forced insurance, and deposit issues, made renting feel risky and predatory rather than professional. I strongly advise against using this service; there are many other rental companies in the area that are more transparent, trustworthy, and considerate of customers’ time and money.
This service is a complete scam! I strongly advise you to steer clear! They attract you with enticing low prices, but when you go to pick up your vehicle, they inform you that you must pay an additional $60 or $90 per day for insurance. The $60 rate applies only if you have your own coverage. This is in addition to the daily rate you agreed to in your reservation.
Caution: This car rental agency in Orlando engages in unethical practices targeting travelers. Upon arrival, they inform customers that their original car rental reservation cannot be honored and that they must create a new reservation at the current day rate, which is significantly higher. Details: The agency operates under multiple names but is essentially the same business at one location. When customers arrive, they are told that their reservation wasn’t processed by the original booking site and that no vehicles are available. They are then pressured to cancel their original reservation and rebook with one of the other on-site companies at an inflated daily rate. Why it Matters: I experienced this predatory tactic firsthand and observed it being used on other customers as well. Many were coerced into paying four to five times their original reservation cost, often putting them in financially precarious situations. The agency presents itself as a legitimate business while actually targeting unsuspecting travelers and forcing them into higher prices when they have no alternatives. Impact: Customers at this location are often stressed and vulnerable, dealing with family obligations and important events. This scam forces them to accept exorbitant rates under pressure. I have never seen anything like this in my travels. It is shameful that such a business is allowed to operate in a city that relies on tourism. Booking platforms should take immediate action to remove this agency’s listings and report them to the appropriate consumer protection authorities.
I would give it negative stars if possible. There were unexpected fees, long wait times, and unhelpful customer service. Overall, it was a terrible experience. I canceled my reservation and lost $600, which seemed better than being charged $5000 UDD after they initially quoted $800. That's a $4200 difference! They claimed they wouldn’t charge that amount but still wanted us to sign. So we decided to cancel. I recommend avoiding this company and choosing a more reputable rental service.
I booked a rental service in Orlando, FL and it turned out to be the worst car rental experience I've ever encountered.
1. This agency is advertised as being at the airport, yet it's not located there and closes quite early.
2. They refused to accept the collision insurance from my credit card and pressured me to purchase their own coverage.
3. I arrived around 10 PM. While I was trying to resolve the insurance issue and making some calls, the staff informed me that I had only five minutes before they would cancel my reservation. They didn’t wait—they actually canceled my booking.
4. I was left outside late at night with no vehicle, no assistance, and no options nearby. The staff here really showed a complete lack of compassion.
In November 2025, my family rented a mid-size SUV from a rental service in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While the car was satisfactory, the process of obtaining it was a disaster that nearly ruined our vacation. I noticed many other families sharing similar frustrations after a long journey. 1) Rental Office Location: The rental office is several miles from the airport, requiring two shuttles and some walking. The unclear instructions made the journey even more frustrating. 2) Rental Office Process: Inside the office, a crowd of frustrated travelers was waiting. Instead of clerks assisting with rentals, customers were sent to speak with remote agents via video call, which was inefficient and time-consuming. 3) Interaction with the Remote Agent: The video call was painfully slow, and the agent showed no urgency. The process was endless, with an outrageous security deposit of $2,500 required for a $500 rental. After enduring this exhausting ordeal, I finally received my car after over 90 minutes, only because I reluctantly accepted the deposit. People around me were openly expressing their anger as their vacations fell apart. Without a doubt, this was the worst rental experience I’ve ever had. I will caution others to steer clear of this service and any affiliated brands. Now, I expect my security deposit returned immediately without any delays.
