Review Time
Well for a start I had to wait 20 minutes to speak to someone, obviously not that easy to do it online!The the man I spoke to was quite flippant, the line wasn't clear so had to ask him a question again for him then to say "As I've just said" very rude!
The catalogue of miserable interactions I have with the company over the last 15 years and so numerous, I cannot bare to list them. They changed my status from mature student, so I lost all my grants and I had to leave uni… only to correct it 9 months later. I got a CCJ from the uni later down the line for the amount they actually owed me in grants.I tried again the next year stupidly, that time they lost all my supporting documentation, sent via the university (recorded) and said I owed them £30k payable immediately. Had to take my daughter out of nursery, left uni, messed up my relationship.After leaving uni they ‘found’ it, after another 9 months.I was offered £500 comensation after years of fighting them, which I never took.Last month was my final payment, today I rang up to get the overpayment they took from my salary back. It took 4 hours after three dropped calls and system issues being transferred to people who can’t hear you.They politely informed me I owe them another £5,500 held on a separate mysterious system they’ve never contacted me about. So that’s nice.The most corrupt and frustrating institution you could ever have the misfortune to have to interact with. Before you call them, prepare to loose the will to live.
Horrendous experience. I am trying to support my daughters application for her second year. You phone for support and constantly get cut off and referred back to the online system. You cant get to speak to anybody. The online system only shows last years loan and is stuck in a loop. Meanwhile my daughter is getting emails saying that if I don't support her application in the next 28 days she will get the bare minimum. A truly horrible system that does not work but what can you do as they are the only student finance company.
Absolutely awful experience with the student loans company. It's is impossible to get through to anyone. I am currently living overseas in the USA, they provide no options for standing orders from overseas accounts, so you need to either need to maintain a UK bank account and suffer the constant transfer fees from the banks or pay a transfer fee every month to pay them.You have to constantly provide them with proof of income and paperwork which will cost you to post international. Clearly hundreds of not thousands of people have awful experiences with this company based on the 1* rating and clearly they do nothing to improve service, it's a disgrace that the student loans company is able to continue operating with such poor reviews and is backed by the Government.

Wish I could give 0 stars. SLC is an absolutely useless organisation. I have a credit balance - apparently they can't provide a statement if you have a credit balance only if you have a debit balance and it takes 28 days to process a refund even though the refund notification email says three to five working days.

Shocking communication in every way. SLC requested info by email, then sent a letter by post requesting it again (but in online account it is still being processed), then email me to say I haven’t provided an address, before texting to say I have to call…and nobody answers the phone for an hour. Added to the fact that the tone of all communications suggests I’m not doing what I should be whilst providing no evidence this is the case, really poor all round!
