So disappointed with Specsavers

I went to Specsavers in Paisley. Had an eye test and received a technically correct prescription I could read the very last line of the near vision test chart when I picked them up. However when I got them home I could not read the lap top it was blurry as was a book being read on the couch. Only if I held the laptop or book near my eyes was it readable. During the initial visit no one even asked about computer use.I took the glasses back to the shop and explained the problem. "No problem" they said and used some hand held lenses to see what worked for me. It seemed a two unit reduction would work for me I could not read the very smallest print but there has to be a compromise. And they sent the glasses away to be adjusted.I picked up the new glasses and tried them out at home. With a book they were fine but with the laptop it was a strain to read it (but better than before) but the lap top is what I use mostly. So I went back to the shop and took my laptop and a book, and we quickly worked out the best compromise was to take one more unit off and then the glasses would work perfectly for any use. However Specsavers wanted to charge £ 40 to change the lenses again. I pointed out that they had not provided glasses suitable for my lifestyle. So they decided to try and use my own words against me. They said as I had agreed that the previous change would sort the problem out and then if I wanted a change now they had to charge. This was true I did say that I could read a 6" x 4" screen at eye level in the shop but that was not my every day reality with a lap top as I had demonstrated. Then they said they had to charge because it would not be fair on other customers, I am sure that 99% of prescriptions are sorted out in one or two visits and so I am sure that it is possible to budget for a few outliers with out adding excess costs to every one else. The next thing they pointed out was that this was a change of one unit and they never advise new glasses for a change of one unit. I said, "OK but these glasses do not work for me", so we went round the, "you agreed and it's your fault" loop again. To her credit the assistant went and asked again but they were adamant I would have to pay to change the lenses. I felt let down this was not the image I had of Specsavers.I am out for Christmas dinner with ten people next week so you can be sure I will recount my Specsavers's tale, they have garnered a negative review on Trustpilot, and lost a future customer. I had already spent £170 on these glasses and I am a pensioner so I am reluctant to spend any more on them, yet this shop is always packed it must have a massive turn over you would have thought they could have just fixed them. To be fair they offered to refund them but I needed them so now I use them for reading only.To coin a phrase "Shouldn't have gone to Specsavers.

Poor Reading Glasses

The Optician was very polite and efficient. Once the 2 varifocal glasses and 1 pair of reading glasses were received - the assistant had me put on the glasses. The reading glasses were checked against a sheet of print, and when held at arms length worked. But when I tried to read a computer screen at work the screen was unclear. I tried the varifocal and the screen was clear. Not happy - the reading glasses were for DSE use.

This was my first visit to Specsavers…

This was my first visit to Specsavers for an eye test and the whole of the staff were very courteous and respectful throughout. On the advice of my wife I had an eye scan which the optician explained to me helped what she was looking for at the back of my eyes. Also a special mention for Rachel who explained in great detail the type of lenses I could have in my new glasses.
