Review Time
Was running late for an eye test because of work. My fault, admittedly, and I don’t like being late, but i called up Specsavers on the way to let them know I would be there soon, and would probably be a little late. I was told if I was more than ten minutes late they could ‘cancel’. I rushed in, ran the last part, got there 12 minutes late (so just two minutes overdue) and was told that everyone had already “gone to lunch”.
Now people need to eat lunch, I get that. But if you have a business and a customer calls in to inform you that they are running slightly late then you have redundancy, you manage it, especially if they call in advance. I was late admittedly, but only marginally more than the 10 minutes. Moreover, I was budgeting to spend 6, 7 or even 800 GBP which should have gone on their balance sheet.
What did they expect was going to happen? I’ve used Specsavers in the past and they were fine (though it would be great if they could calling eye tests a “journey”), but I’m now at a rival opticians. I’m venting of course, but they’ve lost a customer and I think they should care more than they do.
I had a free eye test that resulted in only a slight change in my prescription. After waiting two weeks for my varifocals to be ready, I noticed something was off. A retest revealed an error in my far sight correction, so they remade the glasses. Two weeks later, I started experiencing headaches from them and requested a refund. It's frustrating, especially since a friend's wife, who is an optometrist, mentioned that I didn't actually need new glasses due to the minimal change of 0.25 diopter. I'm tired of being guided into purchasing glasses I don't need. This was a total waste of time and felt like pressure selling. I won't be returning.
When I chose my glasses frame, the representative named Amy assisted me with measurements for my glasses and varifocals. She was extremely helpful and friendly, making my visit to the service a pleasant one. Everyone there was very welcoming.
The representative was outstanding! They were very knowledgeable, patient, and took the time to ensure I was comfortable with my contact lenses. Everything was explained clearly, and I received help in choosing the right option for my needs. The entire process was smooth and stress-free. Thank you for such excellent service—I truly appreciate it.
1 star – Frustrating and unclear experience
On 10/01/2026, I encountered a frustrating experience at a retail store in a local shopping center. I went in to purchase a simple glasses strap, which was priced at £2.75 on the shelf.
However, at the checkout, I was told the price was actually £8 after the label was flipped. Additionally, I was informed that the item could not be sold individually and had to be bought with another product. This was both confusing and unexpected.
Given that it was merely a basic plastic glasses strap, I found the pricing to be excessive and the situation uncomfortable. Overall, I felt let down by how this was managed and would not recommend this location based on my experience.
I have been a dedicated customer for over ten years and regularly purchase two branded varifocal glasses every couple of years. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been quite unsatisfactory. Two weeks ago, I ordered two pairs of varifocal glasses, scheduled for collection today. When I called in advance, I was informed that only one pair had returned from the lab, while the other was on hold, with no clear explanation given.
Upon arriving at the store around 4:30 pm, there was no staff member at the reception, and I waited about 10 minutes. I then informed a staff member that I was there to collect my glasses and was told I would be assisted shortly. However, another customer who arrived after me was served first, without any explanation, which I found to be unfair and unprofessional. I couldn't help but wonder if this was due to my appearance.
When I finally received one pair of glasses after a 30-minute wait, I was given a standard case despite having clearly requested original branded boxes for both pairs at the time of order. I was informed these would need to be requested and might take another week to arrive.
Overall, this experience highlights a lack of professionalism, organization, and customer care. Given my long-standing relationship with the company, this was particularly disappointing, and I am now reconsidering future visits to this location.
I needed wax filters for my hearing aids purchased last year and was charged £7.95 for a single pack. After searching online, I found the same brand available for £3.95 with no delivery charge. There are even options for 4-packs at £9 or less with free shipping on other platforms. This feels like blatant overcharging. Although I'm stuck with these filters for my nearly £2000 hearing aids, I will choose a different provider for my glasses in the future. It's disappointing to see such inflated prices.
If I could give zero points, I would. After an eye test, the optician recommended varifocals for computer use. I paid £220 for the glasses, but everything appeared blurry on my screen. After going to another provider for a re-test, I learned that my prescription was different. I had to wait two weeks for new glasses, but the result was the same—blurriness when using the computer. When I returned for help, I was told my eyes needed to adjust. Two weeks later, still experiencing eye strain, I went back and was advised to pay an additional £150 for a second pair specifically for computer work—absolutely not. Now, I'm using a pair of reading glasses I bought for £7 from a local store, and they work perfectly. This experience has been a complete joke.
I have been a customer of the service for over 20 years and have worn contact lenses since 1985. I have a monthly subscription that allows me to receive a quarterly supply of lenses. When my latest delivery didn’t arrive, I visited my local store only to discover that the brand I’ve been using has been discontinued. Why was I not informed? I spent Christmas Eve scrambling to find an appointment for today since I leave for holiday on Boxing Day. This is absolutely unacceptable customer service.
I was invited in for my annual eye test, and having seen videos highlighting the connection between the service and driving licence regulations, I wanted to ensure everything was in order. I arrived at the store right on time at 09:00 yesterday. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and by 09:10, all preliminary tests were completed using their advanced equipment, with staff providing clear guidance. I then sat down for my consultation with the knowledgeable representative. What a delightful and intelligent gentleman! I spent about twenty minutes with him, during which he inquired about my current glasses. I have three pairs: for distance, reading, and computer use. 'All good,' I replied, 'except for the computer glasses. I had to guess the distance from my screen last year, but I've measured it now at 60cm.' He expressed surprise, noting that few clients provide that detail. He then introduced a new piece of equipment with a slide and check card, adjusting it to 60cm for further tests. I was thoroughly impressed. My computer glasses are getting new lenses fitted to my existing frames for £40, which I will receive next week. I also paid £5 for a more detailed distance perception test. Once again, I was impressed. I doubt there will be any issues with the driving regulations! However, I now face the challenge of using the website. What a confusing experience! I'm giving this review 4 stars, as the website is the worst I’ve encountered in months. It initially stated I didn’t need to register due to a previous purchase, but then insisted I had to register to proceed. It asked for my occupation and wouldn’t accept 'retired,' and bizarrely inquired about my hobbies, rejecting 'reading.' After twenty minutes of frustration, I gave up. It's puzzling why such an excellent service would have such a subpar website. Thank you for reading, and I appreciate this helpful platform. A quick 'like' would be appreciated.
