I would like to take this opportunity to praise thesaleroom.com (Noonans). Without going into immense details, an enquiry by me saw prompt action and considerable action before a (favourable) decision was made. The fact that this was handled so professionally impressed me greatly as a ‘negative outcome’ would have caused them less work. In short, thank you (especially Amelia and Philippa).
I have been using this platform for years without incident. In summer 2025 I bid for and purchased several items that were falsely stated by the seller to be located in one country (details can be provided if necessary) but in fact were in an entirely different country that would have cost me shipping/import.Multiple emails to the seller went unanswered.I then discovered that the seller left negative markers for me that caused issues.Complaints to the seller were not resolved (they told me to complete the purchase when in fact they had later relisted and sold the items) and refused to acknowledge the false and misleading location of the listing (that incidentally was the same on the reslisted item). Complaints to thesaleroom.com were not dealt with properly. They stated that the company was located in the listed location but the listing clearly stated the location of the actual item! They refuse to get involved in the dispute and will not remove the "block entry".There are better (and cheaper) platforms and I would recommend that purchasers consider this carefully.
I used these in the past and was a great experience with Lots Road Auction. However 17.12.2025 i bid for a timed auction for a very expensive item via Hatton Garden Auction Ltd. Total scammers - They request money for goods in advance and collection is in Norwich - mailing shop!. It was only after receiving an invoice/ text and email stating I'd won - i checked my account and no items showed as won!. Saleroom suggests that's normal ?! Haven't bother to raise a complaint as see no value from the saleroom reply. I would encourage others to report to cybercrime and the police.
thesaleroom.com need to vet the auction houses on their website more carefully. I have just been stung by an auction house which misrepresented the lot I bought. I found out after the event that this auctioneer has dreadful reviews online for doing exactly to that to many, many people. I asked thesaleroom.com to intervene and stop anyone else being taken in by this. But they forwarded my email to the auction house who came back with a very rude reply. They then refuse to help anymore. Bizarrely, as a buyer you have more protection on eBay than by using thesaleroom.com. The directors of this company must be on notice that their site is enabling scammers - isn't this an offence?
