I can not tell you how this is as an email service. I get nothing but spam. I sent emails to support, and they came back saying to use filtering. What a joke. They have no spam filtering, or it is nonfunctional. I can not select multiple emails and mark them as spam. I have to mark each one. In a week, I can have 200 hundred spam emails. Do I have to go through each one? I get more spam in my inbox than in the spam folder. The only good thing is that I got it under the 12 euro per year model. If it goes up next year, I am gone. Not even yahoo mail, mail.com, zoho, yandex are this bad with spam. This was to be my secondary email provider but it is failing. I will keep Proton mail for the long foreseeable future.
This is a 5-star company for privacy and trustability. My most recent interaction was also positive with customer service to learn how to set up alias addresses. The information wasn't leaping out for me by usual American clicking around style, so I finally contacted support via my app. I got the answer quickly. The answer also is actually in the support pages. All user settings are found by clicking the setting wheel. (I'm more of a word than international emoji person.) There is a lot of power accessible in Tuta. It does everything it says it does. Interface is nice, but quality and integrity, which Tuta has, make a great.
Well, on my ninth try I gave up. I am not looking for 'free' email. BUT.... your system is sad. After entering all necessary data for your fee based product I pressed enter was told my card was 'being verified' and within 15-20 seconds was told to try later. After '7' attempts I called my bank and asked,'what the hell is the problem?'I was assured that no inquiries had been made. Really like your product's format BUT your new client system........sucks!
As a free mail users, it has been like 2 months of receiving ~daily german language spam all same type/style of mailing. I have reported each using built-in option. But it is still coming in unchanged form. And I have not found any mail filters which i can use against it and no accessible way to contact Tuta to ask for help. That is pretty bad, isn't it? I think I will have to start using different mailbox/provider who allows mail filtering and mail aliases, free or paid using Monero.
Found of Tuta since few years now and it acomplish all y need (mail, calendar, privacy, no ads - I can't wait for the Drive.;-), and makes me proud to use it (green energy, privacy, responsible and local team). Thanks to be there and propose other model than Google !
EDIT: 12/01/2025I've had issues with my IP being blocked for no reason (see original review below). It has now been working smoothly again. Apparently there was (is?) a bug where IPs get banned, even legitimate ones. This is due to DDoS prevention from what I've heared but isn't supposed to block normal users.I wanted to edit my review as in general Tuta does work well, they're privacy-minded (which is becoming a necessity these days with intrusive personal data gathering and selling!) and they're cheaper than the competition. However, it does have it quirks here and there (sometimes no connection for a, usually, very short time) and still needs improving on features and design. They're getting there albeit a bit slow. But if you value privacy and don't want to pay 'top dollar', Tuta is a useful email provider._______________Original review:I've been a Tuta member for a few years now. Switched to a paid/premium plan very soon after signing up.In general, for me, everything is (read: was) fine about Tuta and they claim to be very pro privacy. As far as I can tell, these claims are legit and they provide one of the best anonymous and safe email services. However, there are many negative aspects as well:They are a bit slow on development in comparison to other providers. There are way less features than some other providers have. Over the years I've been a customer, I haven't seen all that much change. The whole interface looks rather old/outdated. Competitors have a much more modern, sleek looking, more detailed interface. They also have more features but it comes at a higher price.Talking about price. They recently changed the plans to a somewhat more expensive option. Nonetheless, they are still one of the (if not the) cheapest options out there. All in all, I've been a satisfied user for the past years. However, this just changed!3-4 weeks ago I suddenly couldn't connect to their servers using the Tuta app for Windows. When I went to their website, I also couldn't reach it.Only with my mobile using 4/5G I could read my emails.I went looking online for answers and found out Tuta randomly bans IP-addresses automatically if their service suspects 'suspicious connections'.Let me be clear: I am a regular paying user that doesn't do ANYTHING out of the ordinary except read and send my personal emails. So there is no reason to mark me as suspicious. After getting in contact with customer service and sending my IP-address, they unblocked me.They claimed it was because there were too many connections left open and that I should check my logs.I checked the logs in the Tuta Win app: there were connections logged dating back to 2021 when I was still logging in via web browser. After that, I switched to their own Tuta Windows app. I cleaned/closed all old connections.Fast forward 3-4 weeks (= right now), my home IP-address is banned once again without any reason!!!I'm so fed up that I'm ready to change to a different well known privacy-minded provider. Also, the contact I've had with CS about SPAM-mails was very poor! They responded with a generic -how to block spam- message which A) I already knew how to block, and B) didn't address my questions about those SPAM mails. After replying once again, they finally addressed my original questions but again with a very short, limited answer. From an email provider I expected a proper reply. All this is leaving me more and more with a bad taste and I'm seriously considering changing email provider. At this time, I do not recommend them at all.EDIT: last time, it took them 2-3 days to respond to me. That is simply unacceptable for a premium service!EDIT 13/09/2025: I haven't had the 'ban' issue since the last edit of this review so all is back okay now.I did experience a small hickup with the software where it would no longer launch on startup of Windows but it has been resolved since the last update.
I have been using Tutanota since several years now.it has started when I discovered that every email like gmail, yahoo, etc can be seen in one second by some authorities.. I absolutely have nothing to hide but I think that we should respect privacy and Tutanota gives me this possibility.I have 2 different accounts, once that I use with private documents, and another one for daily use.very good app on Iphone as well, I strongly recommend.
