Extremely slow to respond and constantly dealing with internal issues. Every time I reached out, something “wasn’t working on their side.” I’ve already lost four critical days in peak tax season because of their delays, and it’s clear they simply don’t care.
Support is practically nonexistent — just empty promises and painfully slow execution. There’s zero coordination between departments, no real solutions, and no sense of urgency.
Not reliable, not trustworthy, and absolutely not worth the money.

It is incredibly disappointing that this software program refuses to offer 1120s and 1041s on the online version and those are only available on a PC computer which leaves it vulnerable to online scams and hacks. I guess it is now Tax Act for all my tax needs.
(Half a star at best)I paid $1,000 for “unlimited” returns with Ultimate Tax (U-L-T-I-M-A-T-E-T-A-X) and regret it.The software is a watered-down, glitch-filled version of TaxWise, something that was never clearly disclosed. Throughout 2025, preparing returns was frustrating due to recurring errors that were never fixed.On January 12, 2026, the software was still incorrectly calculating Maryland tax for a non-resident, even though the non-resident section showed zero taxable income. When I called support, I was told my customer service expired October 31, 2025, despite receiving help in November and December, which they said was only “a courtesy.”I also asked what would happen if their cloud system went down and how I would access client returns. Support said they did not know. There was no manager available, only the owner, who never called back.Poor software, poor support, and not worth the price. I do not recommend Ultimate Tax to professional preparers.
I was thinking about switching from my current tax prep software and spoke to one of their sales consultants ( Mike ) . In the end , I decided not to switch to ultimate tax and as soon as the sales consultant realized that , he abruptly hung up on me . Very unprofessional . If this is the way their sales consultants treat people , I want nothing to do with them .
In 2023/2024 I started my search for software that would be easy to navigate not only for me but also have great options for my clients. Ultimate Tax Software's Demos were helpful but being able to be assisted by great staff from Ultimate Tax was even better. Mike Ray from sales helped me from the very beginning from the introductory phase of learning about the software, the features, client options to the purchase of the software. He has been helpful, flexible, knowledgeable, as well as offered great follow-up during the entire process. I have also received great support from many of the support team as well as the owner. Thank you!!! You and your team are greatly appreciated.
I just called 8666-686-7211 today 09/26/2024 at 11:06 AM Eastern Time. No one responded and the male voice keeps on saying someone will be with you soon. And I waited. But decided to hang up. As an Enrolled Agent have been using Drake Software and would like to inquire about Ultimate tax. I spoke to Mike Ray last 09/09/2024. After our conversation, I asked him to email me about the 1040 NR be e-filed. I received the email 09/09/2024 at 11:41 AM. On 09/16/2024 at 3:52 PM I emailed him about the free demo for the past 2023 Ultimate tax software. Today is 09/26/2024 11:22 AM, I did not receive any response to the email. As a possible new customer, the sales representative should respond to my email or even follow up on a phone call.
I am sure you will regret using Ultimatetax.com with every return you do. They will not care, they will not refund, you will be screwed!!! Ultimatetax.com has been down for almost half of APRIL 15th 2024. On the last day of the filing season. You can imagine the nightmare and the feeling of being sick when you tell your clients you cant do their return and are unable to file an extension for them.
Response to UT response - Claiming to have all states while simultaneously admitting you do not have at least one state is a dishonest business practice. Your response should've been - so we didn't realize WA has filing requirements because we never looked it up. We see their threshold is much higher than most states, which could explain why we missed it. Our team will work on correcting it. But that was not your response. Your response was another false claim - you cannot claim to have all states if you do not have all states.The issue with the screen - that's a SIMPLE DEVS FIX. (Before you say it's not that easy - I've work in IT as a business systems analyst.) If I have to contact support every time I unplug from my docking station to have someone help tell the program which screen it should be on, that's a huge waste of my time and every other preparer who has to deal with it. When I did call, it took 10-15 minutes, once I got to an agent, which doesn't sound like a long time to you - but that's disrespecting my time. Practice honest business practices and people like me would be willing to actually work with you, rather than leave angry and feeling mislead, disappointed and disrespected. *Original Review*I switched from Drake to UltimateTax for the 2023 filing year. Boy oh boy did I pay for that mistake!! It looked great to start with and they even took time to help "train" me. Prior to season start, I felt good about my decision. I learned. Pros: It's cheapCons: Does NOT include all states. WA state doesn't have a regular state return requirement, but DOES have some requirements based on investment income and has some low income credits. NO WA STATE FILES AVAILABLE IN THIS SOFTWARE. I had to take my clients to the WA state DOR page and walk them through how to file it themselves. How unprofressional did I seem to those very same clients I e-filed their WA state returns via Drake the year prior?? I had to give discounts in my service, so the monetary savings was not nearly what it should've been for this software.Additionally, information doesn't flow from one page to another unless directly linked, so you get the pleasure of duplicating entry in the same exact fields across multiple forms. One small example is the address portion of the schedule C. The software can't be bothered to have the address flow to it?!? We're talking simple stuff here, people. Complex returns - if you have any, make sure you double check the information flowed to the correct forms. Hunt and find the correct forms, add them manually and manually enter the data - cause UT won't do it for you.If you have clients with stocks and crypto - be ready to manually enter all transactions. File attachments are limited to 10mb in total, so you will not be able to e-file the return if you attach a PDF of the thousands of transactions your clients make if they enjoy trading. It also does not import the information, so it's yet another time suckApart from the simple 1040 returns I had (not many, I specialize in small businesses), every return took at least twice as long as years prior. Most of them took even longer.At least I have learned a valuable lesson here. Edit / Add:I forgot to mention that, if you have a laptop with docking station and choose to disconnect from the dock - make sure you open UT on your laptop screen and open at least one client on there as well or the program will continue to open your client list on a phantom screen that you cannot access, so you won't be able to get into it when traveling to client sites.In state returns (I also prep a ton of Oregon returns), not all required documents will load, so make sure you double check and manually fill those out for the Portland Public School and Multnomah County taxes (the info won't flow to them)
Software is subpar. Had an issue where I printed off a federal copy to be mailed - literally used the "federal copy to be mailed" button within their software and it did not print out everything. I mailed off all the items not realizing it was missing documents. I contacted the software personnel after the mistake happened and they said it's my fault for not using due dilligence. Okay, I take some responsibility here but I believe they should be held accountable for their product that clearly does not print "federal copy to be mailed." I already renewed my software before this issue occurred. After the incident, I called to request a refund with a guy named Mike. He told me that they don't usually do refunds but he would see what he could do. No call back from him. I did get a call from someone else saying they sent the printing presets to me - WAY after tax season has ended, which does not help me now. I called a week later to get in touch with Mike. Angie was transferring me because he just got free - got sent to voicemail. So I called back and spoke with another person that simply said no refunds. I told her that was okay, but maybe they could do something else like waive a few of my business returns in the future. She said no. They fully admit that the product was not working properly but don't care that a small business had to take a hit because of it. They also pride themselves on customer service, yet one week later no call from Mike!
