I recently had my car clamped by APCOA at Connolly Station and was forced to pay €125 to have the clamp removed, despite holding a valid CIÉ staff parking permit registered on the APCOA staff portal.
Before parking, I checked the portal to ensure my permit and vehicle details were correct. However, the portal does not clearly list which stations are included or excluded under the staff permit, nor does it indicate that Connolly Station is not covered.
I have since been told that signs were erected stating the car park is privately owned, but every APCOA sign looks the same as those used in other Irish Rail stations where staff parking is permitted, such as Heuston. Because of this, the signage was not obvious and easily goes unnoticed.
The payment and release process was also extremely frustrating. The notice instructs you to call APCOA, but when I called the automated system (IVR), it did not recognise the clamp notice number, which caused additional delays while trying to resolve the situation.
The entire process took far longer than it should have and resulted in me missing a planned engagement I had that evening because of the delay caused by trying to get the clamp removed.
Overall, the whole experience felt very poorly designed and not in the interest of the customer. Between the lack of clear information on the permit portal, confusing signage and a payment system that doesn’t even recognise the clamp notice number, the process comes across as more about generating fees than helping people resolve issues quickly.
Very disappointing experience.
The new charge at the Luton airport mid term parking is an absolute disgrace. It used to be free, now it’s £15 and the a signage on approach is almost nonexistent. Disgraceful that this has been allowed by LLA,
APCOA & Luton borough council
We paid for parking at Warwick Uni Unfortunately we forgot to input the exact car reg properly as we were struggling with the website and rushing a little. A few weeks later we get a parking ticket. Spoke to the customer service person who was actually helpful, explained that we’d paid but imputed the wrong dets by mistake. She reassured us and said we’d probably be ok, just to write down exactly what happened, show our receipts etc. Did all this, proof of purchase and still charged £20. So we paid for a ticket as necessary, provided proof but not good enough. Thanks APOCA. Certainly not a cynical money grubbing business are we.
I spent 20 minutes downloading and registering for what I can only describe as the most dysfunctional application I've ever encountered. After providing personal information like my phone number and email (which I suspect will be sold), the system fails to log me in and often freezes.
I visited my mother, who is terminally ill, at the hospital. Upon arrival, I parked and noticed a sign indicating ANPR Cameras and that payment is required upon leaving. After spending around two hours with her, I returned to my car in sleet and rain, only to find that the payment machine's credit card reader was malfunctioning. The machine had a notice instructing to download an app or pay within 12 hours to avoid a fine. I attempted to use the app on-site, but my phone battery was low and the signal was poor. I have photos of the machine and its location number. Once home, I downloaded the app, but it did not recognize my hospital visit despite entering all my details. I later noticed in the fine print that payment was required before leaving the parking area. I accessed the payment site from my computer, but it still showed no record of my hospital visit, although it asked for my arrival time. I indicated around 2 PM, but the system charged me from 2 PM until approximately 5:50 PM for four hours, when it should have only been for two. I've paid the full amount, but there seems to be no way to contact the service for assistance, as the email receipt comes from a 'no-reply' address. I suspect that had I not paid the full four hours, the ANPR cameras would have been fully operational, and I would have received a fine immediately.
Frustrating app-only parking experience with no machine available. It took around 20 minutes to download and set up, and my card was declined twice. I arrived at 09:52 and was trying to pay until 11:40, but ended up being charged for 4 hours despite not overstaying. The app's delays pushed me into a higher rate. This is completely unacceptable, especially at essential public locations like hospitals. There should be an option for zero stars.
A frustrating ordeal with this company. I couldn't get a parking receipt at a specific station, and when I tried online, it showed no receipts available. Complaining was impossible due to the lack of options, so I had to call customer services. I was on hold for 30 minutes and spoke with an aggressive agent who talked over me, insisting that the pay machines don't provide receipts and that I needed to email for one. The agent seemed unaware of the recent changes at the station, which have made everything more complicated and expensive. A completely hopeless company that prioritizes fines over good service.
