Great customer service

Great customer service after we had a tough cut of picanha in our first order. After I gave Basco feedback Miles contacted me directly and offered a voucher so I could try the same or a different cut of meat. Went for the sirloin roast which was tender and tasty. Also ordered cochinillo, piquillo peppers, croquetas which were all really good.

Quarter suckling pig

Quarter suckling pig. We had this yesterday, had friends over for a Spanish meal. Have to say it smelled wonderful cooking but a real disappointment on eating. Very little meat, very, very fatty & nothing really on the leg, taste was indifferent. Very disappointed & NOT cheap!

Great Dessert alternatives.

Great service from the guys at Basco. We enjoyed both the burnt manchego cheesecake and tarta de Santiago almond cake. Great dessert alternatives for special occasions. The cheesecake was wonderful and kept in the fridge for a week.

Enjoyed some amazing cured meats over Christmas! Lived in Spain for years and I have been unable to come by such great produce in the UK. Will be ordering more!

Overall great experience

I was looking for hampers for Christmas and found Basco, they had a great selection of different style hampers to suit what I needed. I ended up buying the easy tapas for two and the steak and wine hamper. Customer service was really helpful when I was trying to work out how to track my delivery. Both arrived really well packaged and they went down a treat!

Best Spanish food ever!

Having Spanish family, it’s always lovely to experience limited food that’s done right! Basco deliver exactly that! Their chorizo… speechless it is delicious! You will not be let down by their option of food they supply! From their olive oil crisps, to their croquettes, meats and especially chocolate! I will be sure to order from them in the further

Very expensive

I ordered the quarter suckling pig which with P&P came to £61. That makes it crazy expensive. The skin didn't crackle up as much as I expected but the taste was excellent, just a shame that it was for 4 people so small portions. It was very well packed and delivered on time but I think it would be far more cost effective to buy the boneless half piglet next time.

Is there anybody there?

I placed an order with Basco Fine Foods and have repeatedly try to contact them via telephone to discuss delivery dates.I have tried multiple times over two days but continue to hear the same automated response over all five extensions. “ The extension you are calling is unreachable at the moment"I wish I had looked at the other reviews before placing my order.Appalling customer service.

So, so disappointing!

I have been to Spain many times and have never had a bad steak so when I stumbled across this site, and everything was on offer I ordered £300 of meat of which close on £200 was for 4 rib steaks, 2 Galician rib and 2 Rubia Gallego. We tried a Galician rib steak first. It was absolutely totally inedible! and we did try. I think even a meat grinder would have gone blunt because it was so so tough and no amount of chewing (and I do have all my own teeth) made it fit to swallow. I sent Basco a photo of the chewed inedible meat and complained and after some back and forth Basco refunded the cost. As I said to them, had they been local I would have sent every thing back for a refund in accordance with the Sale of Goods Act - Goods "Not as described"We then tried a Rubia Gallega steak. This was slightly better in that approximately 50 percent was edible but the other half was the same as the first steak - inedible! So tough, really really tough and so again no amount of chewing would do the job.It was actually quite bizarre in that one side of the steak was edible and the other side was not! The best way I can describe this is as if it was a T-bone and the meat to the right of the middle bone was edible and the meat to the left was not.I note that one reviewer had a similar experience.I emailed Basco but they have not deigned to reply. We now have 2 more steaks in the freezer which based on our experience so far will be fed to the foxes in our garden. And as much as we like to feed the foxes we do not usually spend circa £50 per kilo to feed them. Most reviews on the site were good which I find a little strange as they did not gel with my experience at all. Such that I am wondering if I got the same steaks as other customers were supposedly reviewing. Is my unfortunate experience just bad luck? At these prices there should be consistent quality in supply which is clearly not the case.I will not be spending any more money with this company.Given the lack of any response from basco I have decided to update this review as and when I try the other meats I purchased. We just tried the La Grima Iberica.Basco say "beautiful, flavourful cut of pork that melts in your mouth – Grilled medium rare, it has a juicy, tender bite and a full mouthwatering flavour that speaks of its free-range acorn fed source".To say this is a misleading description of the meat that we tried is an understatement to say the least. The meat we received and cooked looked like scrag end cuts ranging in size from an inch to 4-5 inches long and thin. Totally different to the photo on their web site which looked much thicker and chunkier.I am a competent cook and the meat was cooked as Basco suggested. "Juicy, tender bite and a full mouthwatering flavour" It Was NOT.Whilst it was edible, it was a million miles from Basco's description. And SO NOT worth the price!I am very tempted to refer them to the Trading Standards authority for selling food "not as described" which is an offense under the Sale Of Goods Act.
